As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.
So I just started playing this game and I accidentally nuked the moon.

Quite aware of it! However, I just feel that the idea of playing Kobolds needs bigging up a bit.
Besides, if we can count Kobolds out because of Kobold Camp, then why don't we just make mods for all the races?
Would kinda render this topic pointless.

This is a very interesting idea. Would be interesting to see in action. Especially land walking skelatal War Carp.

If you're playing any other race, just consider how much better dwarves seem to be at dismantling constructions. What good could your traps do?

EDIT: On second thought, if they're using the same AI, they're all too easy to set up. Plenty of us have already done it to our own dwarves.

Goblins for these reasons:

1. Most similar to dwarves (they live underground as well)
2. Much more warlike
3. It's fun being evil >:D

Humans, because I often try to build human-like architecture anyway and I'm fond of aboveground construction.  I'd like it to be more viable.  But there's a lot of things I'd like that would be awkward to implement.  I also like humans in fantasy settings.

Give cats natural metallic armor and throw them in your danger room.  Also allow their mouth and tail to grasp (shield in mouth, weapon in tail xD)  Have a cat based military.  You know, do the same with all tame animals xD send in the cats as shock troops to disrupt the archers

Imagine running a fort with a bunch of kidnapping murderers. Even if you had a sheriff, he'd be killing his fellow goblins at random, too. By second generation, you'd have about as many dwarves, elves and/or humans as goblins due to the abductions and goblin-on-goblin crime, which there doesn't seem to be any consequence for.

I'm running* a goblin fort, and no murders have happened yet. There's one being planned, but only if I'm not having enough Fun already.

But to answer the question, why choose? I think it would be awesome if ToadyOne gave special features to ALL humanoid races, and several nonhumanoid ones!

 
*Technically not right now, because I misplaced the paper I was noting various events on and kinda need that for the log I'm making.

I think we're all forgetting the ultimate race to embark as. Elephants! Although Iron men would be fun. Out of the list I would say gobbos, since you could kidnap elves for trap "testing".

That's with the current AI, so what you're really running is a dwarven fort with different skins. If you assume goblins would tantrum the same, or limit their assaults to only when they're tantrumming, then go visit a goblin fort or any settlement nearby and ask about history. Everyone knows someone who was murdered there. It's part of their casual conversation.
