So, uh...yeah...  I don't quite know what to make of this.

It's bordering on ultra-cheesy and an ultra-awesome-nerdgasm all at once.  I can see this being really cool if you had the proper set-up with bridge props and costumes, played in a massively-multiplayer universe against other people.  Kind of reminds me of D&D Star Trek.  Probably not something you want to tell your girlfriend about though.   :D

You can only get the demo now, but here's the kicker from the website: "Make a YouTube video of you enjoying Artemis, and I'll give you the full version."   :o

I saw this on RPS, looked like it'd be good fun for an afternoon or so. Though it seems like there's not much to do besides flying around picking fights.

It's a shame that the Star Trek MMO didn't have more of this in it. Would've made it a hugely more fun experience.

I love the concept but the realization seems lame. If they would add some better graphics, atmosphere, and a cool setting it would be awesome.

I imagine even scrapping the whole space theme. Imagine if say... Silent Hunter 5 had an option to play like this.

Would be even better with a real internet version - just get some VOIP and have everyone able to view the mainscreen and suddenly you're all set. Captain could just shout commands and view the action.

Neat that they're offering a free copy of it though.

Nerdgasm!!!
I wish I could play it but I don't have any people to play it with, looks like I'm gonna have to sit this out until (If?) they make a online version.

While the game itself isn't all that impressive, it's the concept and potential that gets me excited.

Imagine if a major studio built an MMO out of this system with state-of-the art graphics and a sandbox universe like EVE.  The game would be developed to be played, not only with your friends in the same room, but with full voice audio and video online.  Combat would be a major part, but there would also be the need to investigate and solve mysteries such as distress calls, diplomatic missions, and scientific problems.

It would be a lot of fun to have full-scale pvp wars with your team, which would then be broadcast over LiveStream and posted on YouTube.  I could easily imagine people going all hardcore, and re-design their basement to look like the bridge of a Klingon Warbird with full-on costumes and make-up for their PVP events.  Man, I'd be all over watching that crap.

I remember Pirates of the Burning Sea was supposed to have something like this, albeit with pirates. I always disliked how one person controls everything on the ship.

I think the StarWars MMO "Jump to Warp" or what ever, allowed people to take control of different subsets of the ship.

Anything LAN-able is internet-able thanks to Hamachi.
