Crusader Kings: El kingo of spaino.
« on: October 26, 2010, 08:57:58 pm »

So, I read the kingdom come LP and now I really want to play this game, the thing is that it is six years old. The question is can it compare to Empire total war: Whatever version I have. Six years is a long time and the new one is coming out in two, is it worth the $10 (IE can it keep me entertained or will I forever be thinking it is not as good as total war) or should I wait a agonizing two years to get it.

First: Other games.
Second: Sell your family to get this.

Whoops.

Also I don't think I can get $10 for them, maybe if I sell Realm?

Crusader Kings is nothing like Total War, at all. Also, see the thread on Crusader Kings 2, there is plenty of talk of CK 1 in there.

This is good. Once you beat it several times it get so boring. I don't think I can play a game like that for a long time.

Also I will go check out that thread.

CK 2 is coming out in 2 years, if you can wait. The portraits in it looks amazing.
Edit: Don't want to doublepost but the graphics in CK are rather outdated. Have you looked at Victoria 2?
Edit Edit: If you get CK, get CK Complete. The original CK was terrible.

I wouldn't recommend Victoria.  The game has a lot of potential, but also crippling flaws.  Well, maybe get it.  It's alright with mods.

What really got me looking at CK is the kingdom comes LP. Are the other games worth it or should I not get them all?

Really? I found the game enjoyable, though especially with mods. I did use a bunch of graphics stuff, too, if that counts.

EU3 is fun, but there's not complete set that gives you everything up to EU3: HTTT, so ignore it for now.

I knew I would start a chain reaction when I introduced you people to Kingdom Come. That said, in Crusader Kings it is entirely possible to forge a New Roman Empire with your insane king believing he is Christ Returned and fighting the Mongol Hordes in a war with higher death tolls than both World Wars combined. Nearly impossible, but it can be done. And then you can export it to Europa Universalis and continue the madness. Still have any doubts about getting Crusader Kings?

No. I am downloading it right now.

Now, about the other games in that line? Is EU worth it? V? HoI?

I am posting initials because spell check is down.

If you get the whole line you can play it from start to finish over a 900 year in-game time period. And ineveitably form an alternate history in the process.

You do have to custom-mod the games from Europa Universalis 3 onwards manually in order to do that, though.

Awesome grand strategy game, totally worth it, but do get the player made addons though, they add lotsa nifty stuff that greatly enhances gameplay.
