Don't expect too much :/

It's not eve with robots instead of spaceships. It's like a dumb eve with robots instead of spaceships :D
Well, it's still in beta. EVE has been out for quite some time, and has gotten numerous expansions. I'll assume it's quite bare-bone, though the most important systems are in place(combat, production, customization, skills...).

EDIT: Too laggy for me. I'm looking forward to getting a new computer.

It's somewhat at the same stage of when I started with EVE, which was pretty much when EVE started.

Not in Beta anymore, and a pretty awesome game. Apparently devs are going to bring out destroyers pretty soon along with more things with player owned outposts, which has me excited (My own corporation, Calicem Scientia, has an outpost on the beta islands  :D). Unfortunately it looks like WoW and the Eve expansion have hit player numbers a little, but I'm confident they will come back.

For some weird reason, i got it in my head I wanted to play an MMO again. I know, crazy right?

So i DL'd Rift and Perpetuum. I played Rift few minutes and ditched way fast, WoW clone.

I played perpetuum and I was like, WTF? Eve clone. Down to the point that it seems they completely cut & paste the GUI code, the modules system, the ammo type/armor weakness thing, all of it.

Now, I am still playing and ya know what? I like it. I liked Eve also until I understood everything. I still dont understand everything in this game so it is interesting to think about robot builds, etc.

I will keep playing for a while, jumped in a good corp within a couple hours of playing. If anyone wants to find me there, the name is Disco.

My final word? It is not a complete Eve clone but it is a ripoff. It has it's own good points though and moving your mech around and hiding behind solid objects adds a new tactical layer to combat eve does not have. It is lacking content but there is enough for me to have fun, im sure they will add more "someday". Missions can be a bit boring but its the same in all MMOs if you ask me. I am looking forward to some pvp, i think i might try pirating. The cool thing about Perpetuum is that it is new and fresh and not filled with the mega corps like Eve. The economy is young and the players are dumb (some, but just enough of them) and there are plenty of angles to exploit that haven't been over exploited yet.

Worth the $10 per month to try it out for a bit, IF and only IF you like complex games like Eve.

P.S. It is not a dumb Eve, just not as old and content rich.

P.P.S My theory is these guys want CCP to buy this and integrate it, thats one reason the interface is so alike. It would actually be quite amazing to have mechs on the planets in the universe of Eve.

did you pvp? This looks pretty fascinating:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27WA0phc6RE&feature=related

In eve, you could warp in and out of fights unless you were locked down, pvp usually ended being a big game of cat and mouse as fleets warped around trying to get the best advantage. At times, fleet engagements took hours until the actual fight as ships were jockeyed into position. Yes that is a valid and sometimes fun form of engagement, just slow. Sometimes you just stumble on a target and have at it, but rare with lots of hunting and slow times.

In Perpetuum, there's no jumpdrive. Pvp looks a lot more like packs of predators hunting herds. Not so much cat and mouse. Its fast and furious. Once you set out on your run across the land and you get ambushed, there's no way out. You can keep going or run back, but either way, the mouse cannot hide from that cat so easily.

Interesting. All MMOs get boring, fast, especially sandbox MMOs. It's all about the people you play with and the fun you create. We shall see how much fun I have here but so far it is a good time. I am no fanboi and I will likely quit in 1-3 months. By then I will have had a good time and thats enough for me.

Is there a free trial or did I just miss it?

There is a friend code system where you can get trial codes for 4 days I believe. If I get some would anyone be interested?

Anyways, most of the fun of these games isn't so much the gameplay as the interaction with the other players. Perpetuum is full of hilarious players, epic fail corporations, and there is always some political scheme going on. Like right now one of the major alliances had a civil war within itself over someone killing someone in a zero cost newbie robot :D. My own corp had recently switched out of that alliance too into the top PvP alliance, haha. If you go into the game understanding that the narrative the players make up  is where the real fun comes from, you'll probably enjoy it. But if you are looking for superior game mechanics, well, you might as well wait.

Too bad it's P2P, otherwise I might give it a shot. Does the dev mention anything about the plan to go F2P yet?

Going free to play would be a terrible idea for a game like this.

Is there anyway to pay for your sub with ingame money like PLEX in EVE?

Mech's eh? mouse and keyboard and/or gamepad/joystick? I've got an old comp, is the client configurable? I'll probably need to reduce shading/shadows/ground and character textures to even have a chance at loading the game. My PC runs stalker on the static setting, is that sufficient to run Perpetuum without grinding frame-rates down to 12?

Is the GUI moddable and the community friendly?

Damn. I just wasted money.  I bought a full month subscription and I only played the game for 10 minutes before I quit in disgust. This game's so terribad I felt physically sick.

Moral of this post: Buy the trial subscription first!
