Perpetuum
« on: October 26, 2010, 10:11:21 am »

I ran into this MMO a few days ago and it seems to be in open beta now. I still haven't played it, but apparently it's very similar to EVE online, except on the ground and with robots. The feature list has some interesting things but it really does seem like EVE in nearly every aspect.

Hopefully I will be able to give it a try some time this week and give a better opinion, but meanwhile, here's the link:

Saw this a while back, looks awesome. Is it going to be P2P or F2P with premium or microtransactions?

Not sure, but the early access does imply monthly fees.

It really is EVE on the ground with robots instead of ships, but that said I am enjoying the beta.

This is so close to Eve, I wonder why they aren't getting sued. But then again I have no clue about all this copyright laws and how much one is allowed to steal.

Maybe they're even a small splinter group from ccp, that would explain a lot, but boy, the mechanics are so much like eve its ... well ... let's just say after a few minutes of strugglin with the cumbersome interface I felt at home at once.

*Reading through the site*

*...Interesting...*

Oh- oh, there it is. The dealbreaker. Extension points. Yeah, any subscription-based game that has a time-accumulated experience point system in place is just begging to be passed over and ignored. Moving on, then.

I once shot a bear in the eye with a bow on the first shot, cut it up, found another one, and shot it in the eye too. The collective pile of meat weighed more than my house.

EP are one reason I'm seriously considering the game actually. I like the system.

Like Eve as in combat is incredibly boring and it takes hours to get anywhere?

Like EVE in that respect as well, yes. Combat does take a while.

I was hoping it wasn't going to be a total EVE clone, that they would fix what I find so wrong about EVE, but after playing a few days...

Meh... It's just as boring as EVE and just as time-share-scammy.

Oh well, I'm sure a lot of people will like it then. *rolls eyes*

The difference to eve is... you gain those points and then spend them on skills, instead of choosing beforehand which skills gain points... And you dont actually have to go anyplace to buy any skillbooks. You just have to spend money too, for new skills.

That being said... its a lot simpler than eve. You have a radar and thats that. No triangulation of targets or anything. Well, they're still in beta, maybe with a lot more content and all...

The nice stuff is, as an industrial character you can probably still have fun, because mechs and weapons are scarce(ish) and everything needs to be built. Theres only so much handed out by npcs.

I just wish there was a combination of timebased EP gain and grinding/farming. You know, people who actually log in should get rewarded and stuff. The way it is now is probably better for server infrastructure, however :D

Seeing as I'm one of the few people in this thread that likes EVE, I'm gonna download and try it.

Don't expect too much :/

It's not eve with robots instead of spaceships. It's like a dumb eve with robots instead of spaceships :D

Your reward for playing is money and loot. I like the EP system over EVE's skill training system because I don't have to log in at 3AM or whenever the skill is ending to fill out my skill queue for the day.
