Recommend me some Wii games
« on: October 26, 2010, 09:25:36 am »

So for my birthday, my wife is purchasing a Wii bundle so that we can have some family time in the den. My daughter is almost 4 now, and she's starting to take an interest in video games. Also, my wife wants to start using the Wii Fit regularly as another form of exercise. Neither has a lot of experience with games, so simplified control schemes are a plus (and part of why we went with a Wii).

So I'm looking for recommendations for games that are family-friendly (i.e. Twisted Metal Black is probably a bad choice) but don't suck. Physically active games like DDR clones are also an option.

well for family fun i suggest:
----------------------------------

Rock Band 3 (expect  to shell out money the damn instruments controllers are expensive)

Mario kart wii (no you don't have to buy the wheel controller case)

Mario Party 8?

now for some serious rp-ing stuff:
--------------------------------------

Legend of Zelda twilight Princess

Star Wars Force unleashed

LoTR: Aragorn's Quest

dark crap only you should play
---------------------------------

Resident Evil 4

No More Heroes 1&2

games i do not recommend you play
----------------------------------------

Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn - this sucked so bad compared to the other ones in the series.

Rune Factory Frontier - its a alright game but burns too much time in life

Any of the Resident evil chronicles games - i hate rail shooters

Dead Space Extraction - another rail shooter, expected stuff like from the first game

Any call of Duty games - looks like crap the controls suck well Treyarch vs. Activison game wise, treyarch made better quality CoD wii games.

New Super Mario Bros.: Wii wasn't too bad and actually offered a decent challenge in some areas.
Zack and Wiki is probably too hard for a 4 year old.

Do not play No More Heroes in front of your kid, unless you like explaining why that man's head is missing, and what those words mean.  If you get my drift.

Metroid Trilogy is pretty fun, but is probably a bit scary for a 4 year old.

Oh ho ho, but don't try to return the shoes, because they won't take them back once you've worn them.
Especially if that fat pig Tony is at the desk.

I was 5 when I played Doom 2.  IDDQD every time.  Nowadays every once in a while I do UV runs on levels.(Spawning on the level with just the fists/pistol)

I probably shouldn't have played Shadow Warrior though...

My girlfriend owns a wii and she plays harry potter and the half blood prince, seems to look nice, its actually a few mini games of spell casting, broom flying and potion making connected on the story plot.

I cant recommend about games for the kid, but for you and you girl:

As someone said, Aragorn quest is quite nice, doesnt come near the quality of pc rpg's, but its still fun to hack and slash with it and its filled with alot of side quests.

Mini-ninjas is a must in my opinion. a little rpg about ninjas, where you can turn into animals and use your hat as a boat.

Rabbid go home, crazy little game about crazy rabbits who collect stuff so they could reach the moon.

Monster Hunter 3. no need to elaborate on this one.

Yeah, I've played the first Raving Rabbids, and I think that line of games might be a good choice.

My wife also likes the Wii and Wii fit. She loves Just Dance 2--it may be difficult for a 4 year old to do a lot of the moves (and depending on how you feel on the matter some of the dances are a little stripper-esque, but most are just fun, some silly, and very family friendly) but she'll probably have a lot of fun anyway. The music is a pretty good selection of pop--most new, but some oldies.

I'll second New Super Mario Bros. We would have had an easier time of the game just playing it alone but two+ people on the screen at once lead to some hilarious mishaps. However, at around 4 years old your daughter might have some problems with controls--it requires a good amount of coordination.

My 3 1/2 year old nephew is coming to visit for Thanksgiving here and we're thinking of picking up Go Diego Go!: Safari Rescue as he's a huge fan of the series and it'd be really age appropriate in terms of content and control scheme. I think there's a Dora version too: Dora Saves the Snow Princess. I'm not sure how much you'd enjoy them though. We're getting it as more of a distraction than a group activity.

BROTHER! I never knew there were others!

Also watched Alien(s) alarmingly young, but that didn't include still-beating hearts in bowl-pedestals.

Real Heroes: Firefighter

It's actually not that bad, and if your daughter thinks firefighters are cool, she'd probably love it!

I know it's unrealistic, but I can't help but imagine little bearded babies for dwarves. In my mind, they come out of the womb fully bearded. That's how the mother carries them around, too, she just drags them around by the beard or ties it to her belt. When the father's on duty, he just ties their beards together and the baby just kind of hangs there, swinging to and fro with Urist McDaddy's movements.

Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Brawl are a lot of fun. If you or anyone else in your family is a golfer, Tiger Woods 11 is a very good golf sim. Red Steel II is a fun sword fighting/gun game that requires a bit of arm movement, though its violent. Sonic and the Secret Rings is alright, though the controls are a little annoying at times.

I found Madden 10 disappointing.

And don't forget there's a bunch of classic games available for download, from systems such as the super nintendo, nintendo 64, genesis, ect.

Blastworks is a pretty good arcade-type game, and very multiplayer friendly. It's one of them games where you are a spaceship and you shoot things while sidescrolling, with some added quirks like adding enemy wreckage to your ship to make it better.
