Oh dear, here we go again. Petition time!

http://action.openrightsgroup.org/ea-campaign/clientcampaign.do?ea.client.id=1422&ea.campaign.id=8227

The UK 'government' is trying to push through a ridiculously expensive and unnecessary bill, costing around £2billion, to monitor our internet traffic.

Considering that the spending review has cut literally billions from education, policing and defence it beggars belief that they'd insist on pushing this through.

Sign the petition, email your MP, do yar thang!

Wouldn't that be wonderful if we could have a lolbritain thread to make up for all the lolamerica threads we've had?

You're forgetting government=good business=bad.
This is the fundamental assumption of the entire Labour Party platform, by the way.

You do realise that this idea was scrapped by Labour, but has since been reinstated by the Conservatives.

I'm actually rather tempted to just encrypt every little mundane thing I can find, just to make sure our oh so well spent money is going to good cause.

What, so now Labour is pro-business and the Conservatives are pro-labour?

lolbritain. Or are we not doing this in this thread. I can wait until an official lolbritian thread gets posted.

this article from the totally infalible bbc isnt totally relevent but it suggests our greater leader DC wants to throw cash at anti terrorism measures.

That'd be lovely, Black and white and all. The Torys are managing to damage the economy as well though, so it seems like the Conservatives are just pro-themselves.

lolbritain.
Unfortunatly, I agree. But it doesn't detract from lolamerica either.

That'd be great, if we had some extra money going into the police at the ground level - which would make them more useful in the event of an attack.

When political parties make their bread and butter on terrorism, that's how you know the terrorists are winning.

Well, Labour aren't in power.  And aren't supporting this.  So...

And in any case, Labour's been basically pro-business since circa 1997.  They did massive privatisation, for chrissake.

What, so now Labour is pro-business and the Conservatives are pro-labour?
Not really, no.  And it's not relevant to this.  This is really a misguided attempt to be pro-business - the music industry wants Orwellian spying to take place, the government is in bed with them, so they do it.

Sorry, saw an interview and a few documentaries on Thatcher, otherwise never cared much for British politics except that apparently they do things like this from time to time. Really, the only news you get is how Britian is banning this or that. Political analysis of British elections? Zilch.

You know when a British guy calls a domestic policy Orwellian, its creepy.

Well, "Looking at everything I do on the internet, including my Facebook page which would have huge amounts of information about me if I actually bothered to update it" is pretty Orwellian.  And for a questionable value - I mean, the amount of raw data they'd have to look at would be insane, and it'd probably be bypassable anyway.
