Ehhh... *Inches towards X.*

This is not a simulation.

...

Well I'm sold.

Do I have to have Steam to play it?

I don't really want it and I don't think my friends will want it either.

Steam is a free gaming platform, nothing to be scared of. Trust me, you won't feel a thing! :D

You have to be careful though.  99% of people love Steam but for some reason 1% of people have nothing but trouble and turn into rabid steamophobes.

I think I'll pack a lunch tomorrow instead of hitting the cafeteria.

\\Puts hand up for Steamophobe...// I mean come on...
1: Buy Total War Empires from the local Video store cause they are selling games these days.
2: Come home and attempt to install it.
3: Be told that I need to make a Steam account to play it. (BEFORE installation starts)
4: After downloading and installing STEAM itself and making an account I am then informed that I will need to DOWNLOAD the WHOLE GAME OF TOTAL WAR EMPIRES!!!
5: WHAT THE FUCK WAS THE POINT OF BUYING A HARD, IRL PRODUCT TO THEN BE TOLD TO DOWNLOAD SOMETHING THAT WAS OVER 3GBs AND WOULD TAKE AROUND HALF THE WEEK TO DOWNLOAD...
6: Spend 4 hours looking for a way to actually install it off the disc, find it and install it off the disc and then Wonder WHY I was asked to download it...

This game does not supports joysticks. Yes, I kno0w its not a simulation, but controlling with a mouse or Xbox360 controller is freaking impossible.

Yeah, it doenst actually supports JOYSTICKS, on ly gamepads and K&M. People still call gamepads joysticks for reasons I cannot fanthom. Believe me, I have the game, it doesnt.

I almost feel that paying $1.50 for this was too much.

And no, it doesn't really support joysticks.

The way they bundle retail games with steam is broken. It wasn't really developed with that method in mind, but somehow they figured this would be a good idea and slapped something half assed together.

Buying games on steam directly and downloading from there, which is what steam was designed for, works perfectly fine.

Thank goodness I have both types (though I prefer to use the joystick (or I think console gamers would call them flightsticks)); I have an XB360 controller for good measure at least.

Let's hope it controls similar to Ace Combat or Air Force Delta games, otherwise, I may be in for some trouble.

EDIT:
Did a bit of flying. I expected more maneuverability and control over the craft. Not to forget, that game gets rather graphics intense. I'll have to really nerf it when going online. Personally, I like simulators more. I mean, I can't stall out my craft and make it do a cutback drop turn-style maneuver in mid-air (essentially, half-an-Immleman; but same purpose; good for descending, and doing a 180, or a 90 in either direction, or just dropping straight down for tons of speed for another maneuver queued up in your bag of aerial tricks). I love doing that maneuver to take down others. Second to it, if done correctly, being able to angle-strafe (essentially managing to somewhat fly sideways or backwards while maintaining forward momentum) is also a fun dick-move maneuver to pull off. They require some serious engine micro-managing and concentration with the flight-stick (and plenty of rudder), but still, fun as hell to perform, and funny as hell if you get a kill with it.

I know it's unrealistic, but I can't help but imagine little bearded babies for dwarves. In my mind, they come out of the womb fully bearded. That's how the mother carries them around, too, she just drags them around by the beard or ties it to her belt. When the father's on duty, he just ties their beards together and the baby just kind of hangs there, swinging to and fro with Urist McDaddy's movements.
