They're playing up the China aspect primarily because, of the major outsourcing nations, only CHina has the economic and industrial base needed to drastically harm US manufacturing without the resuling economic boom destroying the factors that made outsourcing attractive in the first place.

I like how he mentions Rome as failing due to abandoning it's principles, as if it failed the moment they turned from republic to empire.

No, no.  That's all wrong.  Some pundit/interviewee/whatever I saw a few weeks ago informed me that America was "founded on freedom."  Which means we're standing atop it and trampling it every day.  It makes sense.
