FPS apocalypse -spoilers-
« on: October 25, 2010, 03:45:00 pm »

I was using Reveal and yes, one late night I forgot to unreveal before I unpaused.  FPS apocalypse.  Big lag spike, hovered at 5 for a little bit.  I un-revealed and tried to play anyway.  As time went on to the fps slowly recovered all the way back up to 20.  Given certain "..... is no longer enraged" and an incredible clown roster on my deceased list I'm wondering if they went beserk like merchants do with no pathing options and killed a bunch of each other off for me.

Well, after holding steady at 20 for awhile, it's beginning to drop back down again.  First to 15 where it evened out for a little bit, and now back down to 10.  Just a few minutes ago it began flickering to 9 fps.  Are more clowns entering the map or something right now and making things worse?

I'm currently preparing a project to rid me of this mess but if the fps drops too low before I can finish it I'll have to abandon...

EDIT: Disabling weather [its always raining here] and temperature got me about 2 extra FPS.  :-[

I was under the impression that the clowns come in piecemeal, not in a clown car. You may have awoken something -deeper- in your Reveal...

Something... -deeper-?

Why does that want to make me think of Duke Nukem 3D when I'm working my way through a level and I can hear a battlelord or an overlord nearby going -clunk clunk clunk-

EDIT:

I am very gravely disappointed, but it appears the mystery has been partially solved.

Which means that I am now possibly crossing into the boundary of over-preparation in my gigantic plan to assault the depths of the earth.

What are your plans for...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'm not a good enough player yet to pull off grand stuff like that, and the 2nd and 3rd layer caverns are bunched up extremely close around so there's barely any room to do anything like that.  This is gonna sound like a cheat, and yes it is a cheap hack/edit, but I removed a LOT of [TRAPAVOID] tokens.  I'm just going to use tons and tons of cage traps.  The only reason why I don't feel more guilty for cheating that way is because I have a sort of fetish for cage traps.... god I love those things.  My only fear are dusts, vapors, and all sorts of nasty stuff which I hope will not leak out of the cages on the way to the storage room.

EDIT: Down to 6 fps.  I ran dfcleanmap in case the game was getting bogged down with infinite dust trails from some of the clowns but it didn't seem to help at all.

EDIT 2: Tempted to just use Runesmith's "nuke" button.  See if that will help any.

Well, first I need to establish myself in the 3rd cavern and the upper floors of the

well... being LAZY I didn't go through and manually remove [TRAPAVOID] for every single one.  I did a find/replace with [PET] so yeah....

also has the side benefit of making all 867 forgotten beasts in my world trainable.

If it had deadly dusts, vapors, or what have you its going to the elves.

Well you could also build a sort of self somewhat contained arena and pit them against things you can't train.
