[33g] dwarf bones emerge from their graves
« on: January 20, 2008, 05:22:00 pm »

When my dwarves put a dead dwarf in a coffin, the corpse decomposes in the grave, and at the final stage, the bones pop out and need to be reburied.  I find this ... disturbing.

Are you playing a haunted/terrifying area?
It might be some residual information or function from the "dead rise and stalk the living" feature, that was supposedly implemented at some point, then deactivated. I dunno why, but I just like that lil' function. Just tame the undead, and you've got your necromantic fortress.  :)

No.  It's some version of nice and happy, which is why I am currently busy adding 60 graves to my 100.

I forgot to mention: the clothes also creep out of the coffins.

Weird.  This was a problem in 33a (and some other early 33's) that I have not seen ever occur in 33g.  You're positive you're running 33g?

I've seen an item or two start blinking on top of graves, haven't actually had their bones come out yet though.  I don't dwell on my coffin room much, though.

Indeed; I got a lot of practice dealing with graves in Landsdiamond   :)

To a previous poster: definitely df_27_169_33g_s.  I also have f, and before that it was 0.23, but I haven't run those in a while.

I've also had this occur with .33g.
The clothes coming out is the weirdest part. There are four filled coffins in my fortress, and on top of each one, a single sock has appeared. Just one sock on each one, and they all appeared after the graves were sealed off (floor built on top of the down staircase). Bizarre.

Keep those stairways sealed; I bet those socks want vengeance.

[Dwarf] cancels store item in coffin: interrupted by angry sock.

I cant help but laugh when I imagine a dwarf watching some bones or clothes pop out of a coffin.

Socks popping up is still rather common in 38a, not sure how it is in 38c!

You superstitious fools make me sick.  This has nothing to do with poppycock like zombie socks or skeletal dwarves rising from the dead, it's a simple and logical matter of pressure build-up inside the coffin from decomposition gasses released from the dead body.

Eventually, after enough gas has expanded, the pressure inside the coffin is too great and a small "burp" occurs, perhaps causing some small item to be carried along by the force.

Really, such hocus-pocus nonsense should come from the ignorant mouths of children, not educated people such as yourselves.
