"P" in civilizations screen?
« on: October 25, 2010, 03:53:36 am »

When I hit 'c' for civilizations, I get a list of about half a dozen races: Dwarven, Kobold, Elven, Goblin, Human, Antman. On the far right of the screen, each line has the letter "P" in green on blue background.

What does it mean?

Peace, I think.

Engraved on the monitor is an exceptionally designed image of FPS in Dwarf Fortress and it's multicore support by Toady. Toady is raising the multicore. The artwork relates to the masterful multicore support by Toady for the Dwarf Fortress in midwinter of 2010. Toady is surrounded by dwarves. The dwarves are rejoicing.

Yes, it means Peace, between the currently selected civ on the list, and all the civilizations with the P.  So if you scroll over your dwarven civ, you might (just as an arbitrary example) see Goblins, Kobolds, and Humans all with P next to them, and a big red W (or something similarly obvious as meaning "at War", I can't be bothered to check what it is exactly right now) next to Elves, meaning the dwarven civ is peaceful with everyone but Elves.  And if you scroll over the Human civ, you can see who they are at peace and war with, etc...

If your civ shows as being at war with either Humans or Elves, they will also send ambushes and (maybe?) sieges.

Also, all of these national relations are checkable by tabbing through the displays on the embark screen before you set out, just for reference.

Also note that you can be at 'peace' with the goblins, but they will send invaders as normal. It's just what they do, you know? If you are at WAR with them, the invasions they send are truly nasty and come early.

While at war with goblins/elves, elves will only send ambushes, and humans will only siege
