Dirty Lying Site Finder
« on: October 23, 2010, 03:36:28 pm »

I'm trying to find an all terrifying site with no aquifer (sounds fun but kills fps). My last fortresses have all been on glaciers because they are almost always terrifying and the aquifers do not matter because they are frozen. This time I want a non glacier all terrifying map (3x3).

I'm currently generating:

large worlds
medium history
very high civs
medium sites
very high savagery
very high beasts

Using the site finder I specify:

high evil
high savagery
medium temp (to avoid glaciers but wouldn't mind a high temp spot either)
flux stone
no aquifer

The problem is it keeps finding supposed matches but when I go back to the site viewer they always have an aquifer even though it says "No Aquifer" in green... What gives? Also, is there any way to make it search again excluding the previous results? I've been remaking my entire world every time like a fool because I can't figure out how to make it search for another spot in the same world... :(

Maybe the site it gives you has multiple biomes, and only one of them has an aquifer?  I'm not familiar with the eccentrics of the site finder, so I'm not sure if that kind of thing would fulfill your search.

Only one biome, I'm being very careful to avoid multiple biomes because of glitches with how "surroundings" work.

the site finder only presents one option...if you dont like it theres no way to select the next.....i think even running find again returns the same first match...not sure.

anyway, look for your purple areas on the map since that denotes terrifying as i recall, often forests/mountains seem to be terrifying so maybe look for the border of those two for something

i generally look manually anyway, though yes, finding aquifer free can be a pain

Site finder is a pain in the beard. Just do it manually.

Those biomes usually lack an aquifer all the way through them, so it means the site chosen does have a hole SOMEWHERE. It might not even have an aquifer at all, no way to tell until you embark.

You can also disable aquifers as well.  Lazy Newb pack comes with a bat file, or use notepad++ and open all the stone/soil files and do a mass replace on [AQUIFER] to {AQUIFER}.  This of course requires a new world gen.

Given our relationship thus far, I can genuinely say the party has just begun for me. - Captain Mayday,

You can just do that change the raw's of the generated world (in the  /save/regionX directory) so u wont need a new worldgen.

This results in horribly messed up embark locations... Instant collapses, screams from below, magma coming all the way up to the surface suspended in mid air, frame rates of 2, 300+ z lvls of nonsensical materiel placement, etc... I replaced all of the [AQUIFER]'s with {AQUIFER}'s in the three files I could find in the raw folders that contained them of both the game, and the saved locations. I tried using old maps as well as genning new maps and it always ends up with distorted embarks :( Can anyone give me more details on how to do this?

I've checked all of the Inorganic_X files in my raw/data folder and all of the same files in my data/save/regionX/raw/objects folder.

Screams from below at the start of embark gives me nightmares, because it always makes for a very short fort unless you're very lucky (and fast) about walling yourself in.

I'm not sure how to help this though, to be honest.  It's a non-issue for me, because I have all aquifers disabled and instead have a mineral that shows up in small clusters in igneous intrusive that has the aquifer tag.  It works very nicely for infinite water at low annoyance.

Sounds like all you really need to do is change everything back. Once your first major seige comes along, you should know what to do  ;D

What do you mean? Am I supposed to change them back to [AQUIFER] after I gen the worlds, before I embark?
