Erm... "Contaminated" River
« on: October 23, 2010, 05:06:52 am »

When I was testing a system to funnel water from a river to the valley outside of my fortress main entrance, I noticed it has the strange side effect of coating the area in a smearing of blood from a dwarf who died in my fortress more than a year before... It's kinda.... disturbing.  :P

Anyone else ever seen something like this?

Blood, vomit, pus, clown dust, all seems to self-replicate in water. It is a known bug for the current version.
It does lead to awsome (vomit-falls next to the trade depot) and very bad (Clown dust in the water supply when your military that just fought one washes AND NOW YOUR DWARFS BRAINS ARE ON !!FIRE!!) things.

"Yeah. My plan was to drop some kittens into the siege, and have my dwarves freefall into battle, landing on top of the kittens. The plan was kinda dumb though because the kittens were standing on grates, and the goblins killed them with arrows just as I was releasing the freefalling dwarves. So the dwarves weren't able to land on kittens and just fell and died."

I've seen this happen in 40d as well. Carp were usually involved.

Never used Dwarf Therapist, mods or tilesets in all the years I've been playing.
I think Toady's confusing interface better simulates the experience of a bunch of disorganised drunken dwarves running a fort.

Some FBs give off dust, which usually rots some part of the dwarf it comes into contact with.

Or you can have a set of clowns like I just got where every single one of them has poisonous breath or fire.

Oh god they just blew up the booze.

You'll find out eventually.

The real question: can this be weaponized?

I envision a moat of forgotten beast blood.

Yes, but unless it kills instantly they're going to track it into your fortress and bad stuff will happen.

What good is a defensive weapon that doesn't also kill all your dwarves?

Nah, even for a dwarven weapon that's a little excessive.

I got FB that had blood or something that makes all those coming in contact with it to sleep.

Now nearly half my fort is sleeping and the other half has fallen into cages due to being drowsy.
And said blood is multiplying all around... Cats are sleeping outside in the rain among goblin ambushers, etc..

And building cage jobs seem to be somehow bugged and not happening...

It would be totally awesome if poisons such as this could be harvested and weaponized...

I have a moat filled with like 60 different blood, ichor and whatever mud craps. Needs some cleanup tool...
Or someone to debug the game.

See dfcleanmap

DF is unplayable without it.
