Mebzuth The Surrealist Engraver
« on: October 23, 2010, 04:34:59 am »

Engraved on the wall is a masterfully designed image of Mebzuth Tradekindled the dwarf by Mebzuth Nishstizash. Mebzuth Tradekindled is engraving. The artwork relates to the masterful engraving "The Shower of Amusing" created by the dwarf Mebzuth Tradekindled for the Safe West Chamber at Bronzeneutral in the late summer of 821.

He engraved himself engraving.

If "The Shower of Amusing" turns out to be an engraving of him, I think my head will explode.

Yes. I have seen this before.

Masterpiece engravings seem to count as quite important events, and some engravers do tend to engrave the most important events known to them, or other interesting facts and information. One engraver of mine engraved a picture of his wife, surrounded by the bucklers she loved so much.

Dude's got a weird sense of humour, too. He carved the retirement of my mayor as one of those "Surrounded by dwarves refusing him, He's making a plaintive gesture"

Replace "refusing" with "dropping a ceiling on" and you're a little closer to what actually happened.

Revisionist history is fun.

One day the title generator will be smart enough to call that kind of engraving "Self-portrait of the Artist at Work".

Never used Dwarf Therapist, mods or tilesets in all the years I've been playing.
I think Toady's confusing interface better simulates the experience of a bunch of disorganised drunken dwarves running a fort.

I had 7 engravings in a row (meaning right next to each other on a wall) which made me nearly fall out of my chair laughing.

They went in this order.

The engraver's pet cat on fire
The engraver's election to the position of mayor
The engraver losing his position of mayor
The engraver's wife election to mayor
The engraver's wife on fire
An engraving of the engraver engraving his pet cat on fire
An engraving of the engraver engraving his wife on fire

It was like a short  picture haiku of his life.

wandering legendary bunny
Obviously you don't know the story of a adventurer taking out a Bronze Collosus by throwing a rabbit (fluffy wambler) at it's head. Your engraving captures what the rest of it's life was like as Superwamberly Tough, although it's probably not as interesting as the bit where it kills wolves by throwing itself like a fluffy canonball.

I do know of that, the things name is Zusmo the hare brute. Since hare is another word for rabbit it's safe to assume it's a bunny. What else interesting could happen in year 6.

You get engravings of dwarves engraving.

I get statues and engravings of humans and dwarves being eaten by gators. (This and pictures of me are all I ever get if it's of any quality.)

In my last fort the legendary engraver churned on repeat:
- pictures of himself surrounded by oysters and looking terrified
- pictures of the mayor embracing donkeys
- !!elf merchant!!

One of my particular engravers was...strange.  He was obsessed with engraving piccolos - okay, that's one of his likes.  That's understandable.  He was also obsessed with flies.  He detests them, but he carved them all over the fortress walls.  Yeah.

Since he was also my mason at the time, he also built many statues, all of which were of three things - more flies, his goddess, and the mayor.  The mayor was either cowering in fear from lizards, or embracing horses/bloodmen for their gruesome features.  I think he was very conflicted about his feelings for his leader.

I wonder if we should have a thread dedicated to interesting engravings.

I haven't got any nice engravings to share (just lots of stuff about some lake titan killing a dorf in history),
but these days I take it upon myself to dig a biggish room and have one column or line engraved each year
so that I can check it out and get a "history record" of sorts and the dorf gossip.

Engraved on the monitor is an exceptionally designed image of FPS in Dwarf Fortress and it's multicore support by Toady. Toady is raising the multicore. The artwork relates to the masterful multicore support by Toady for the Dwarf Fortress in midwinter of 2010. Toady is surrounded by dwarves. The dwarves are rejoicing.
