Increasing fish population
« on: October 22, 2010, 08:32:17 am »

So, I'd like to have a fort dedicated to fishing, without having to make my fisherdwarf do something other than fish 90% of the time to avoid overfishing and eventually making himself useless.

What exactly needs to be changed in the raws to make fish effectively infinite? Or is this not possible at the moment?

I would take a look at the ant, fly, and earthworm raws, because in most games I generate, the populations/sites export file lists them as "unnumbered" i.e., basically infinite.

That comes with the [VERMIN_SOIL ] tag no clue what that would do to a fish though.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of anything in the raws that could be tweaked to increase small fish population. If you're not opposed to fishing for (really, hunting for) the larger fish, you could increase their reproductive and group size tags so that more of them exist in the world and more of them show up at a time. Not too long ago I remember seeing screenshots of a guy who had a bi-yearly run of literally hundreds of large fish; they'd go upstream in the spring and downstream in the fall.

The fish you catch are vermin. Perhaps adding new fish or making duplicates and changing the names will increase their numbers?

Worth a try.

that would be wicked to see if you can find it.

I quadrupled the turtle's population. Turtles everywhere.
I had a thousand turtle corpses after my cats slew 'em all.

A related question;

Is it possible to make a structure spawn fish?
Like a Fish Farm as it were.
