Power Overwhelming
« on: October 22, 2010, 06:33:01 am »

Just a little noobish question from me here...

How do you guys power your pump stacks or watnot? I have been trying to build a mist generator over my dining hall and its a looong way in... Built about 8 windmills so far and alot of wood to link the pumps to the gears . Any alternate way of powering my stuff or more efficient? I embarked next to a volcano so no river, water for magma I'd say.

Dwarven water reactor.  You can fill it by setting it as a pond zone even without a river.  You still need some water access though.

I usually use the Dwarven Water Reactor - explained in the wiki.

I assume you should at least have water in the caverns somewhere?

I use waterwheels mostly, lots of them, but considering you have no running water windmills seem like the only option. You can build a/some perpetual motion machines, some might say it's an exploit but while I've never built one I see no problem.

Stacking windmills give at least 2.875 power per tile or 46 power per 4x4 stacking area in weak wind areas. If you are lucky to be in a strong wind map it gives 7.875 power per tile, 126 per 4x4 area. Either would suffice in most circumstances. I suggest to steer away from the quantum power generator.

Pond zones work now? I flooded my basement to get the water for a reactor.

Pond zones have always worked...  They were never broke.
