But, it is because dwarven !!SCIENCE!! almost inevitably results in fire.  Even when it shouldn't.  Like when experimenting with reactor designs.  Keep in mind that somebody had to discover that magma makes for a terrible (unusable) power generation medium.

And because normal science rarely involves magma as part of a controlled experimental process.

Spoiler to not combo break.  That's an interesting idea.  I'll try it, but I need more magma, DF reveal showed me I've got to go all the way down to Z1 to get magma.  And pyramids.  On the plus side, when I get there I've got (!!!)25871(!!!) Candy waiting for me.  Other than that, it's an uneventful flat tropical freshwater swamp.

  Fix'd. For the record, double spoilers do NOT work.  Also, the map I'm on has 200k gold.  I have so much of it I've un-designated it as an economic stone and am using it for walls and stuff.
