Video games based on World War I?
« on: October 21, 2010, 04:56:23 pm »

There are a lot of games out there based on WW2, but I'm not aware of very many based on WW1. The only one I know of is Victoria 2. I'm looking for a good game that can really immerse me in the history of the time period.

-Shoot at the enemy from the relative safety of your trench.
-Get shelled by artillery
-Flee the trenches, possibly try to overtake the enemy position
-Get torn to shreds by machine gun fire

It may be the overplayed excuse of why a WW1 game is hard to do, but it wasn't called the Trench War for nothing.

And old turn-based strategy game called (The?)Great War was based on WWI. It had an interesting turn scheme, one player would move his units, and the other would attack, then next turn roles were switched(the mover's units won't have moved until the next turn starts, so if your guys were targeted for a hammering by several units, it wouldn't help trying to move them out of range).

I was playing Resistance&Liberation a few weeks ago, and someone mentioned a WWI Steam mod in conversation with another player, but I haven't been able to find it.

There definitely seems to be a dearth of WWI games, unfortunately.

... Yes, the hugs are for everyone.  No stabbing, though.  Just hugs.

Well there is always WW1 Medic here on Bay12.
There was also a Half-Life 2 Mod, but I don't remember the name.

Flailing people to death with empty socks, though, that takes a lot of effort. Less so if the sock's made out of something interesting, but generally quite difficult.

We actually had an extremely similar thread a few months ago. I recommend looking through the posts there.
