Borderlands, keep the random generated weapons, however get rid of the concept of "lvled" baddies and make it feel more like a shooter, but have elements of a rougelike, such as random generated worlds, and randomly generated enemies.

Borderlands did to guns what had been done to swords and armor in almost every preceding rpg before. Big effing deal.

I think I played it for half an hour and then deleted it.

Except its an FPS not an RPG.
Personally I like borderlands.

The only game that I think really needs a good sequel is Spore.

No, it is not an FPS by my standards. If it has so many RPG elements that actually aiming and shooting becomes less important than "questing", "grinding", "leveling", it's an RPG. If I can shoot a bow in Oblivion, that doesn't make it an FPS either.

When you can defeat any enemy in the game with just skill (and maybe a better/different weapon), then it's an FPS. Too much crap is sold as "FPS" these days, but put those players in a real one (Any Doom/quake/HL/UT) and I'll blow your effing head off with my mad zkillzorz. Or something :)

Well, you can kill any enemy with just player skill in Oblivion (even Umbranox, apparently the only thing that doesn't quite scale to your level). In Fallout 3 as well. I'd say those are primarily FPSes. RPGs second. Or third.

I'd actually say that too much crap is being sold as "RPGs" these days.

Add "Experience Points" and a few choices in dialog and suddenly it's an RPG. It's genre-blending, but looks more like blanding.
IMNSHO, real RPG's are played with pen and paper. Yes, I'm on a rant here, but most new games I play just plain suck.

I'm gonna go with Advent Rising.  It had tons of problems, but it was really cool and had a neat story.

Let's see...  Die By the Sword was really hard to control at times, but the basic idea for the control system where you moved your mouse to move the sword the way you wanted was really cool, and the main character was really funny.  Also, dismembering enemies and beating them to death with their own limbs was just keen!

Metal Fatigue wasn't really bad or anything, it just seems like it didn't have any real success and it's a shame because it was actually really good if a bit generic and unstable.  But it had giant customizable mecha and you could steal enemy parts then research and reverse engineer them to use as your own.

Trespasser the physics based Jurassic Park FPS was really badly broken, but the idea was really cool.

Oh yeah, the Carmageddon series was a really cool combat racing game.  It lacked mass appeal due to the whole pedestrian slaughtering thing I think, I played the first two but never got to play the third.  The second one has an absolutely awesome damage system for it's time.  The car would crumple, and parts would fall off, and you could even get ripped clean in half if you got his hard enough.  The controls were kind of stiff though and it was often hard to tell where you were supposed to go... And I think it was a bit unstable too.

I do wonder if Borderlands would have been better with no levels whatsoever, just enemies that are tougher and meaner and gradually drop better weapons over time (while each weapon degrades unrepairably so you need to keep switching it up).

Well, Spore deserves a Spiritual Successor - as in, made by someone else under a different name.

And isn't Elemental supposed to be the successor to MoM, anyway? It's not quite MoM, but it was planned as such.

Man, it would have been awesome if they made a couple sequels to The Matrix.  Too bad they never did.

Which The Matrix? The movie or the game? The game wasn't all that good, in any aspect, and doesn't really deserve a sequel.

I personally hate the RPG aspect of modern FPSs. Fuck Borderlands, MOH or COD but when i see something like Brink it really bugs me. ...where are the times where the main factor was your skill?!

Those days are mostly over becouse people stopped buying for one of two reasons.
1)Too hard
2)Hated multiplayer becouse they had things to do while other people spend all day practiceing then utterly destroying them

The movie.  I was recalling the classic joke for when a sequel is so bad that it ceases to exist as a sequel.  Kind of like how Highlander skipped straight from 1 to 3, what a weird numbering scheme!  ...That's Elemental for you.  Though who knows, I guess it might get patched.  So, why don't we add Elemental to the list!
