Your Worst Game that deserves a sequel!
« on: October 21, 2010, 01:45:07 pm »

Games don't always turn out right. In fact they are often downright horrible, but occasionally there is a game with a great concept that just barely misses the mark.

To you what is the worst game you ever played that you would be the most hopeful for if it had a sequel?

My Vote is Black and White 2. The game was destroyed by bad luck, poor programming choices, and funding... I would think it would turn out much better a second time through.

They did try it a second time, hence the "2". Whoops.

Fort Zombie. It's not my "worst" game, but it's a game that really they should take another run at, with more money and development time.

Oh, and this isn't really a bad game, but I'd have to say Darklands. It's not bad, but it's buggy and quirky enough to prevent me from playing it even though there's damn near nothing like it at all on the market.

Darklands

This.  They cut a lot of features to make the ship date.  (Not all of them were necessarily awesome--there were going to be political struggles, revolutions, and cities changing hands, but I can't imagine the players caring about that at all.  I know the only difference I cared about between city leadership was "does the guy who pays me to squish Raubritters live in the city hall or does he live in the fortress")  And one of the big features they wanted to hit was...to make it link up with its sequels.  Import your characters into the next game when you travel over the game border to France!  Fight different monsters and deal with different mythological evils!  Then come back freely whenever you want!  Unfortunately, they never got around to delivering.

Come to think of it, "Wilderness: A Survival Adventure" was supposed to have additional expansions that they never ended up shipping.  I wouldn't have minded that either.

I remember reading somewhere, either the manual, or ingame, in Darklands that there was going to be a Darklands 2, but it never happened.

I don't recall much about bugs, my main gripe with Darklands was, despite being very freeform overall, limits what choices you can make in most situations to the "good Christian policy",.

A Darklands 2 that lets you be evil would be perfect.

Epic game, but horribly under publicized. Sequel would give me Nerdgasm.

Well to clarify it is the game that is the worst in your mind while still deserving a sequel.

In otherwords out of all the games in your mind that deserve, or that you would wish, a sequel which is the worst.

so Dues Ex: Invisible War counts, but it sort of says you don't think bad games should ever be revived no matter what improvements could be made.

Deus Ex 3 is being made, although actually, that's a prequel.

Wait wait wait, are we talking about having sequels for bad games, or bad sequels to possibly good games? I'm confused.

Worst game that deserves a sequel, IE a chance to fix what was wrong while keeping the underlying core principles that were pretty cool?  In other words, games with great ideas but terrible execution?

Hmm.  Malkari, without a doubt.

Whenever threads like this come up I realise I have a really hard time remembering any bad games. I know I've played bad games, but I seem to just erase them from both hard drive and synapses.

One frustrating game I could see a remake/sequel of though is old dos game Maelstrom. It's not a terrible game as such (in fact quite enjoyable until you lose), but it is NINTENDO HARD and as you play you realise it's more limited in scope than first appearances would indicate.

EDIT: Oh yeah, also Reunion. It was buggy, ugly and full of typos. Interface was useless and the gameplay was tedious. It was also great fun. Technically this game was inspired by deuteros which was the sequel to Millenium 2.1, another two lacking games that I loved.

7.62mm, 7.62 High Caliber, Brigade E6, they're all the same game with a different name. Anyway, yeah. It should have a sequel that doesn't randomly corrupt its own textures or your saves.
