liberal crime squad has some replayability, along with micromanagement and quite complex

Gotta throw these three in here. Europa universalis 3 (+3 expansions [soon 4th]), Hearts of iron 3 (+expansion) and Victoria 2.

Not at all like DF, but they have micromanagement and replayability. Paradox interactive games generally have a lot of detail in them.

Man, here's a new take on the subject of DF-like games. Most of the time, threads about games like DF end in fire and death (read: massive flamewars).  :-\

There were some posts about Goblin Camp. Although I have no clue what the gameplay is actually like, judging from both the descriptions given and the number of threads on the subject locked due to excessive flaming, I'd say it's probably sort of what you're looking for.  ;)

Rogue, Zork, and the myriad of ASCII games out there.

And punctuation please.

If what you're going for is "insanely complex game in ASCII" and you like Adventure mode, you might really really enjoy Nethack.  Everyone loves Nethack!  Losing is fun, but once you get badass at it, you feel totally awesome.

If you want a strategy game with design stuff that is WAY TOO COMPLICATED and will kill days and weeks of your life, try Aurora (mentioned on this forum).  Warning:  I hate that game.  You might too.

Personally I would recommend Crusader Kings with DV and DVIP, or Arsenal of Democracy if you want a WW2 game.

It won't last as long as the original DF, but hey, while we're all having fun building a fort and getting killed, you might as well join along :P

Nothing, nothing is even close to what DF is now.

Aurora might interest you.

Yeah, if you have a large monitor (most laptops wont hack it) and a real passion for spreadsheets.

The two Dungeon Keeper games are similar in some respects and that similarity is one of the things that drew me to DF. Not really a micro-management game.

Multiplayer DF:

If we are talking multiplayer then Haven and Hearth might float your boat. I haven't played in a long while but it was fun mining with fellow bay12ers.

Failing any suggestions here you might want to try one of the larger DF mods as they can really mix things up.

Yeah, Aurora if you can bother to learn it and have a screen resolution of 1280x1024.

The game makes DF piss easy to learn.
