That was my first thought, but he'd probably notice a spattering of hot sauce on there before filling up the bowl, and pure capsaicin is virtually impossible to find. Pepper spray?

This is not even remotely funny. If you ever accidentally trip on something (i.e had something laced without your knowledge) it is one of the most fucking terrifying things ever.

I thought that some vodka or tonic water would produce fumes, enough to make someone cough, but I don't smoke that stuff.

The mental image of this amuses me greatly. Even better would be to invite somebody from his family over who doesn't know what a bong is and flaunt how it's a vase to him and his family member. He can't get outwardly angry at you because he would need to explain what a bong is.

I agree with the vase thing. Take it one step farther, though, and store Thyme or Oregano or something in it. You know, herbs. ^_^

The time the smoke spends in the liquid is not enough to make a noticeable difference. Also, surface area and stuff. Whether he gets a few % of THC less wont make that much of a difference.

Thing is, with vodka, its really really gross to smoke. Especially if you're not expecting it, it can get really nasty in your throat. Personally I wouldnt really consider doing that to my roommate.

The flower thing is a nice idea.
