FPS anomaly

My computer hates whatever calculations go into the temperature.
TEMPERATURE:YES = 20 FPS
TEMPERATURE:NO = 2000+ FPS WITH A MASSIVE CAVERN EXPOSED
I want around 200 FPS, not something absurd.

you can set a top limit for the FPS. I cannot see how the temperature could make so much difference. In the past, turning it off has raised my FPS from say 17 to 22.

My point was that the jump was rather unexpected.

Why is your FPS so terrible? large map? tons of stuff? catsplosion? computer from the 90s?

PC from the early 2000s mostly. And too much stuff. Though atom smashing will probably only bring me back 10-20ish.

PC from the early 2000s mostly. And too much stuff. Though atom smashing will probably only bring me back 10-20ish.
I finally see why people use an FPS cap. 2200 FPS on an underground lake.

Engraved on the monitor is an exceptionally designed image of FPS in Dwarf Fortress and it's multicore support by Toady. Toady is raising the multicore. The artwork relates to the masterful multicore support by Toady for the Dwarf Fortress in midwinter of 2010. Toady is surrounded by dwarves. The dwarves are rejoicing.

don't worry, my fps drops to about that once the fortress gets going.
These fps rates are from the very first unpause.
FPS immediately after unpausing hardly counts, see, while paused, your FPS will just rise and rise to whatever cap you have set(or keep rising to the max your system can handle if you have the cap set to 0), after unpausing it will decline a bit, get stuck at one spot, and then finally lower to what it REALLY is.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.
