you know those veins...
« on: October 21, 2010, 03:01:41 am »

Yea, those veins that cross over the edge of the map.  I hate those so much.

I also hate those veins that get cut off by cliffs and caves and magma pipes (especially the last one, it's hard to get at the end without flooding your mines with !!magma!!).

/end rant

On a slightly more serious note, I'm still trying to figure out if there is a way to mine those last few tiles against the edge.

Pretty sure those rock tiles on the edge of the map can never be mined out by any means.  You can deal with ramp tiles on the map edge by building floor or other constructions but I have never been able to dig out rock tiles on the map edge.

I'm more annoyed at the sheer abundance of minerals. It makes it really hard to dig out rooms without hitting a bajillion valuable objects.

That's the great thing about this forum. We can derail any discussion into any other topic.
It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.

Yes, but sometimes it's nice to give a dwarf a room with engraved native aluminum floors.

Especially if they're the ones that engraved it. Then flood them with magma...
Because the King was unhappy about how pretentious the... nevermind. It won't happen again.

It really does ruin low cost housing, though. Lucky we don't have to worry about that economy yet.

You want low cost housing? Completely mine out an area, then build the walls and floor out of something cheap.

And you people call yourselves dwarves.

If you want dirt-cheap housing, build them in dirt ;)

I personally hate about veins that you have to designate the tiles to mine pretty much one or two at a time. Dorfs can't be commanded to mine entire veins at once.

DFHack has an option to mine out veins.  It's awesome!

Until you accidentally breach an explored cavern and oh god the screaming why won't it stop?

Same here.

Few of my dwarves get the luxury of native gold walls. Enjoy the diorite, you drunken bastard.
