I was making an aboveground fort with my humans when I decided to fight the aquifer, thinking that the winter was on my side I tried to use ice to breach it, but the sudden water breach froze my miner and I started another fort, with the same exact civilization and embark supplies, on the same exact place. A black bear scared off my second miner before he started to work on the aquifer, a possible warning of the danger that lie ahead. I sent my militiaman to fight the black bear, but within frames he was on his back being torn to shreds, he was a bowman without the weapon i assigned him to use, a copper short sword. I sent my woodcutter to fight the bear in hopes of rescuing the bowman, with my miner as backup. I was too late, the bowman had already died and the bear was going to work on the woodcutter. The woodcutter was knocked out and bleeding heavily when my miner came from behind and killed the bear, ending the horrible slaughter that had befell my two workers.

He trudged back to the wagon, claiming to be "fine" in his description but bearing the red arrow of unhappiness. My miner channeled his anger into his efforts to breach the aquifer when the screen suddenly changed, with the announcement: "Kir Atlelobin, Miner cancels Carve Up/Down Staircase: Dangerous terrain." I realized that the warning should have been here the moment I set foot on this ideal forest with a nice minor river, the tainted spirits of the underworld had trapped me in the boundaries of this 5x5 square of forestry, and were resolved to making my fortress a living hell.

Noticing that my previously mined out area had been replaced with soil, I went aboveground to check on my wagon when I saw the most horrible situation I could ever have: My last 4 remaining settlers were in the middle of the wagon, surrounded by about 30 red Ts, I thought all hope was lost, until I looked at them, to find they were all "Snow-covered Tree". Not "Snow-covered Birch/Pine/Oak", just Snow-covered Tree. This is the first time in any time that I have played Dwarf Fortress where I have had something like this happen to me.

I was using v0.31.16 with an entity_standard file that made dwarves humans and humans dwarves.
Has anyone else had something like this happen to them?

Yes. It's a pretty common occurance when you embark on the same spot.

In future, use Reclaim when you embark (I think it's upper case R when you're picking a spot).

There's lots of terrain glitches in 31.16, especially with on-old-site forts and multiple worlds.
