Nethercap magmawheels
« on: October 20, 2010, 05:32:50 pm »

Title pretty much says it; if I make a waterwheel out of nethercap logs and run magma past it, can I be confident that it will generate power and not be incinerated?

I still think that the whole fortress should be flooded with magma the moment you try dividing by zero.
This could be a handy way of teaching preschool children mathematics.

No and maybe. Waterwheels only generate power from water.

It would work, except magma has no flow, and thus cannot power anything. In this case, flow is different from simple movement (which magma does do)

You could make magma safe beds. That way you can recycle them after each noble is melted.

Nether-caps have a fixed temperature, meaning that they cannot be brought to their ignition point by any conventional means.

Sleeping on a bed which is always at 0°C should be very confortable...

I thought about this before, too. Pity a magma reactor can't be made.. That would be as convenient as it is awesome.

Why can't a magma reactor be made? Nethercap wheels, green glass pumps... Why wouldn't it work?

No and maybe. Waterwheels only generate power from water.

^ That's why. A reactor derives its power output from flowing water. Doesn't work with magma.
