My mother decided to get me and my brother some hair growth serum for christmas, as I am developing a widow's peak and he is thinning on top, and he in particular is a bit self conscious about it.* I decided to try it today, because why not.

The box describes the sensation it should cause as 'warm and tingling'. It's more like I rubbed deep heat muscle relaxant on my forehead. Stuff kinda burns for a few minutes, certainly more than I anticipated.

*I am too, but not as much as I generally wear my hair at a length that can hide the widow's peak, while my brother likes his hair a bit longer and it makes the thinning more apparent rather than less.
Sorry to say it's unlikely to work.

Only things known to help are minoxidil and finasteride (And maybe ribose solution). Minoxidil shouldn't feel hot unless they added deep heat to make it seem like it's doing something, and finasteride is a pill.

Yeah, I'm dubious as to if it will have any effect, but its been bought so might as well give it a shot.

Ingredients seem to be mostly plant derivatives. The idea seems to be that it cleans out the follicles, encourages blood flow to the area and encourages hair follicles to swap from one phase of activity to the other. Does it work? Probably not, but I need to get back into a self-care routine and this is as good as any.

I bought fancy $6 conditioner to see if it might help with my thinning hair.  That is the only expense I plan on making.

Might be time to consider adding a hat to your wardrobe.

Why only get one hat when you could get several and have one for every day of the week.

I have a hat for every day of the week. That's how good a hat it is!

(Though I might look like I'm hiding a bald-spot, I'm afraid that's not the case, though I went silver/grey a long time ago.)

On Greenland: now Russia is closely eying the US's (well, mostly just one person's) ideas of taking it over.

Likely for almost exactly opposite reasons: It would be a territory grab that's similar to both the (alleged) NATO/EU advance into Ukraine, a 'threat to Russia', and the actual Russian advance into Ukraine, thus retroactively justifying their own (poorly accomplished) ambitions to redraw the map in their own favour. It'll be interesting to see which attitude dominates, in how Russia responds (or pre-responds).

BTW, Greenland is more obviously "part of Canada" than "part of the US", anyway, assuming that Canada doesn't also still play a part, as a modern day War Plan Crimson.

There are those who think think it's anachronistic to have Greenland a semi-independant territory of Denmark, but you could solve that (and yet not make it a vulnerable relative-micronation) by reconnecting it with Canada. Not all Canada, but a part of Nunavut Quebec. Or, better still, make Quebec part of it, which nobody could complain about... ;)

General philosophy on non-hormonal based hair solutions is "stimulating the follicles."

And I've seen everything from extract of pepper to eucalyptus oil.

It's all BS, as far as I can see. They sell it based on the fact you feel something. Yeah, putting something effervescent on your skin will certainly make you feel something. But it's not going to magically make hormonally-driven follicle behavior change.

It's all snake oil salesmen tactics. Better just to accept biology and work in your self-confidence IMO. (I personally like my widow's peak TYVM. The balding spot on top of my head, not so much. But that is life.)

I've had a bald top and forward dome for more than 10 years, and I got no problems with it.

Unrelated, but I somehow got logged out of the forum.

Found out today how easy/early reader biographies deal with a personal history that includes "died of heroin overdose at 27".

Turns out the answer is "they don't" :V

Half of a sentence in the back of the book about them dying young (not how young, mind, just young), no further reference or mention. Tracks with a biography aimed at like six year olds or somethin', I guess.

See...this is why I hate how the media plays with Trump instead of against him.

It is not about Greenland.  Note that he said he's going to annex Greenland AND the Panama Canal.  He just fucking can't annex Greenland.  But by including Greenland in his plans, he's pushing the envelop.  So when he only annexes the Panama Canal, he has assumed the "moderate" position.

That makes it easy then, as Russia doesn't need to worry about encroachment (and the West fan ignore Russia again until it decides that it wants the Bosphorus, and then perhaps Suez).

But it isn't just the media, as voices from the Kremlin are talking (in low voices, currently) about the implications. Could just be political by-play, with the same anticipation as yours, of course. Depends how much they trust that their guy isn't totally out of control.

There is no US thread anymore so I don't know where to post this.

Looking at newspaper articles from last week, Trump seems to look really bad. As if he has aged 5 years in the last month.

Slightly hopeful, maybe he dies of old age before he can be inaugurated.
