Nah. Prison uniforms is not a dutch thing. The orange suits is a US thing.
(It has to do with rehabilitation. The idea is that at some point, prisoners will return to society. Wearing prison uniforms works counterproductive in preparing prisoners for going back to society. It increases the onset of institutionalisation).
Institutionalisation is a psychiatric disorder caused by long term stay in prisons or other closed wards. It can cause serious handicaps, like not being able to poop and pee without having someone around to ask permission for that first. It is the main cause for prisoners doing crime after being released (after a long sentence), because they want to go back to prison, not knowing how to function in free society anymore.

The other thing is that dutch society is very individual freedom oriented. Things like uniforms (except for professions requiring one like police forces) are frowned upon and associated with authoritarian regimes.

A law has been suggested animals killed for halal or kosher meat have to be stunned with electricity first. Supposedly, it is to reduce their suffering.

I find it strange, since not only does electric shock hurt too, it doesn't even stop you from feeling other pain. So they will first feel the pain of being electrocuted to almost death, preventing them from moving. Then they will have their throats sliced and bleed out. Unless the shock stops their heart, in which case, the butchery is botched and the meat is not clean.

So my razor, shockingly, doesn't get into my belly button very well, meaning that I have to tweeze the few hairs that dwell in it out.

When I'm pulling on them, I assume due to some weird thing where the same nerve services multiple areas, I get an unpleasant burning/stinging sensation deep in my pelvis.

I'm trying to learn how to nap. Usually whenever I try to nap I'll use my bed, and then I'll sleep for 8-12 hours by accident and then I'm all fucked up. I figure I just need my environment to be less comforting, so I tried just sleeping on my rock-hard floor, with some old pillows bundled together in a garbage bag as my only comfort. It takes a while but I do get some sleep, or half-sleep as I still seem to be half-conscious and partially aware during the hour or so; but yeah, I guess it worked, I napped, if that's what napping is supposed to feel like. I'm more energized and a little less anxious.

I do need to put an alarm on my phone if I am going to take a 45min nap, or I'll end up just sleeping multiple hours.

A bad habit I took up is both doing the occasional bit of work[1] and napping on the sofa, which is comfier on the posterior than sitting at the table (especially for napping!), and also a more natural position of working on the laptop/tablet on the couch if I'm reclined with knees up.

I've sort of manged to get my body inadvertently used to "sit here => consider going to sleep", which is a bother when all I'm doing is "pondering hard" about something (not quite the "I'm just resting my eyes", level, but) . Every now and then I found I've actually been asleep for half an hour, and the dreams I have, during them, can be both helpful and unhelpful to what I'm doing!. Interestingly, can include glasses/computing device(s)/headphones[2] somehow having been placed neatly on the appropriate nearby flat surface (or just safely undisturbed), apparently with entirely unconscious yet precision dexterity.


...but what I'm getting at is that perhaps you can develop a 'nap space', distinct from your bed as 'sleep space', but definitely try not to make it overlap with somewhere you would not want to nap, whether or not you think it possible to. But you would have to know what works for you. (Physically, physiologically and according to what your living space is like.)


[1] Whether 'work'-like work, or else just personal to-do projects.

[2] A bad habit of mine, even in bed. I can dream that I can't turn some (dream) sound-source off, and that's because it's what is still playing to me IRL, after having queued up more things to listen to than what I would eventually stay awake for.

I have multiple alarms that are set to go off in chorus and continue blaring for at least an hour. They might as well be decorative though, since I can ostensibly sleep through absolutely anything if my body wants to continue sleeping. Yeah, my circadian rhythm is utterly fucked beyond repair. Despite how heavy of a sleeper I am, I don't seem to get more tired over the day, I just get more and more anxious. I won't feel tired, but as I sit at my computer, I'll close my eyes and apparently just fall asleep, which is a pain when I'm cross-legged and my left leg goes completely numb from blood starvation. But yeah, because I often don't feel tired, but I'm still mentally deteriorating, I'll just keep going and going until I have to arrest myself in my blankets to force myself to go to sleep and reset mentally for the next day. This often means I'm often staying awake for 20 hours, and sleeping for 10, which means my sleep schedule is always sliding forward. I'm glad I have a new job going, that will force a schedule on me and tamp down my subconscious self-harm.

They have those! It's called making your alarms loud enough the nearest neighbor calls the cops and they kick down your door and haul you out of bed. Wouldn't recommend, but it's pretty effective.

Though if you're far enough out, you've made your alarm loud enough it knocks you out of bed by itself and the problem is solved! So is your ability to hear, maybe anything made of glass or similar material in a wide area, possibly your home's structural integrity, but eh. Tradeoffs.

... something actually approaching serious, if you genuinely wanted something like that you could probably rig something with a lift chair and something hooked to an alarm that can press buttons (it's more know-how than I have off the top of my head but from what I understand it actually wouldn't be that difficult). Six o'clock and out the chair you go.

Might be able to just hire someone to wake you up on time instead, but it'd only take a month or three of 5-10 bucks per day to match the cost of a cheap lift chair. Would maybe depend on how many medical costs you rack up from being repeatedly chucked on the floor by a chair, that's a pretty good way to bruise bones or somethin'.

Though alarm wise, I had luck back when I was having similar problems... first by making the alarms incredibly difficult to get to, then by changing up what the alarms were. Default alarms are shit, boss/noise music is where it's at. Something proper disruptive.

The perfect length of nap is 20 minutes. If you’re sleeping for much longer than that, it’s proper sleep.

I don’t like to nap, but I’m now parent to a not-quite-three-year-old, so I don’t have much choice in the matter. My brain goes “comfortable watching nonsense on YT? Cool, I’m just going to turn everything off for a bit okay? Okay.”

It’s kinda mind-boggling in this day and age that advertisers don’t seem to have figured out the first five seconds of their ads have to hook the viewer.

There’s a YT ad for something (I genuinely have no idea for what) which is a black and white close up of a black lady’s face, looking upwards with a hat on, with “Cash App community” over her face, and then just at the point someone says “so” is when the skip button appears.

Fire that marketing company, methinks.

Come in from taking dog for last outside walk of day. Hear cat noise from odd direction, don't see cat in normal places. Next see cat coming down from above.

The thing that gets me with ads on youtube is that they're two to three times louder than the video I'm trying to watch, which is why I try to skip them as fast as possible or reset the page until I don't get an ad.

Ads for things like youtube don't really seem to work anyway I haven't seen one in years that remembered after it playing, except for one I got for a Japanese convenient store and I only remember it because I was trying to figure out why I was getting a Japanese ad despite not living in Japan or looking up anything relate to Japan.
