Holy shit. I don't know what's crazier here, the junkie zombie clambering up a building or your insane psycho landlord.
I imagine you'd want something high calibre for the stopping power to deal with such threats.

Same landlord and property management company that ignored repeated reports about fleas coming in from a nest of stray cats in the basement for five months until I brought in a stack of flea traps full of hundreds of the fuckers to their front office. Take that as you will.

My LGS had a nice deal on Sig P320 X-Compacts, so I picked up one of those. I'd rather have 15rd of good-quality 9mm JHP in a compact semiauto (see: above about shitty tiny apartment where the longest sightline is ~5 yards) than fuck around with a shotgun or revolver, and the backdrop for my front door and window is a row of houses so a rifle is an absolutely-not.

For what it's worth LGS guy I bought it from was a retired SWAT officer whose department uses the same rounds in their duty pistols, and he unholstered his EDC to show that he was still using them himself. Apparently the crime scene and morgue photos of people who'd had the bad sort of police interaction indicated it was more than sufficient to him.

SIG is usually a good bet. Just make sure to take it to the range every so often - under stress it can be hard to get "minute of bad guy" even at extremely close range.

Even without stress, back before I got a membership at an outdoor range I can't tell you how many times I watched somebody bang away at a target for 20 minutes, then pulled said target out of the trash after they to reuse because it was barely touched.

Yep, I fully intend to. Just practicing the mechanics of loading and dropping empty mags, racking it, &c. to get a feel for the amount of force necessary and start working that into muscle memory while I wait for my earpro and mag loader to arrive, then I'm going to do a course and get my concealed carry permit and put a few boxes of FMJ through it at the range. Not gonna drop money on a ROMEO1 unless I'm absolutely hopeless with it, but I was a decent shot plinking with .22s so I'm confident I'll be alright with some practice. I'm sure glad ammo prices have finally dropped a bit from pandemic levels though lmao.

Not too worried about stress reactions, I haven't frozen up or gone shaky either under threat or when doing medical first response before... and ultimately there's not much you can do to prepare for a fraction of a percent chance of having a bad reaction while needing to fire in self defense since that's a once in a lifetime thing for almost everyone.

You can also do dry-fire drills - rack the slide and pull the trigger on an empty chamber. This won't hurt a modern centerfire gun, and it helps you get a feel for the trigger. Ultimately what you're doing here is buying some peace of mind, and the more confident you are in handling the thing, the more it will serve that function. The chance that you'll ever need the thing is remote, and it is even less likely you'll actually have to fire it even if attacked, but if you've already had close calls knowing it is there will help a lot - I speak from experience here.

Also, if you're going to store or carry it with a round chambered, fire the defensive mag every range trip. If you chamber and unchamber the same round repeatedly, you can start pulling the actual bullet out of it. Making sure that you use up any round that's cycled repeatedly is good practice.

Yep, that's exactly my mindset. Thanks for affirming what I was thinking! Don't want to use it, but I've had enough close calls at this point and the place I live is just getting worse.

No, I don't intend to carry hot until I have a lot more practice. Feels much more likely that I'd have an ND in a careless moment than that I'd end up in a situation where the extra second/need for a second hand to get a round chambered is a matter of life and death. Especially since there's no factory-stock manual safety on it.

Just make sure before dry firing to double and triple check the magazine's out and there's no round chambered. Odds are there won't be, but all it takes is one mistake and you've got, at best, a new hole in the wall.

Instead of buying a gun, you could also report the incident to the police, and shower with your window closed until the police caught the deranged person and delivered him to psychiatric care.
Even more so if your bathroom window looks out towards a neighboring window, and firing a round has as much chance of killing an innocent child in a building across the street as it has a chance of killing a deranged person threatening to bite off your cock.

Depends how much there is of a "police are useless" attitude (as well as with the landlord). And even a (relatively) anti-gun person is going to be somewhat likely to be happier to have one than not in various circumstances, in the US.

(Over here, in the UK, your average person wouldn't talk so easily about gun details and UDs/ADs, even our cops are overwhelmingly unarmed, where my experiences of the contintent (Germany, your Netherlands and France, as the main swathe) is that while the populace don t go toting (or, one presumes, concealed-carrying to any great degree), the police all seem to have sidearms. Whereas this is an extreme rarity in my local experience.)

I mean, I'm wondering what a gun will actually do, in this circumstance, except add more complications. The sex-pest might just be picking on the one person who hasn't yet waved a gun(-shaped object) in their direction after the first rude interuption. But, culturally, it's all frankly foreign to me. If I thought any of my neighbours had a handgun[1], I'd probably feel no less surprised than with you and your rocket launcher incident, yet without any expectation that there'd be plenty of unfettered voyeurism going on in the absence of such 'safeguards'. (Maybe I just don't live near such a hotspot of
lasciviousness and ne'er-do-welling, of course, and there are always going to be clusters of any given bad behaviour if you look for it. Whether even the same building codes and practice exist to even make this an exploitable issue, elsewhere.)

But everyone has to deal with the situation as it seems fit for them to do so, within a given degree. Sounds like this degree of dealing with it is pretty much normal, by FD's current circumstances. Which might be a different problem, less easily solved.

[1] Less surprising if nearby farmers have shotgusn, but I wouldn't even assume that to be a given. Probably as likely to get "a man in", should there be any significant pest-control issue (which needs any such solution) in many cases. Like they'd hope to get a police response if they had human intruders.

Over here, only the police, the army, and the marechaussee are allowed to carry a gun.
If I were to know my neighbor has a gun in the house, it would be my civil duty to report that to the police.

EDIT: we do have hobby shooting ranges. People who shoot for a hobby are not allowed to take their gun home though. Their guns are stored in a vault at the shooting range.

Civilian gun ownership is as alien as green creatures from Alpha Centauri over here.

Here in Czech Republic, concealed carry is allowed with a permit, and I do know some people that actually have guns.

The police all seem to have pistols at least, though I saw some with what appeared to be SMGs at airport and sometimes even railroad stations.

fwiw Ive had a gun pointed at me 2 times in my life.  In america, though one of the states with stricter gun laws...

One was shortcutting through a dilapidated mine, a homeless man and his lover were camped in a tent and had what I think was a flare gun, but I wasnt going to stick around to find out.

The other was a pair of young muggers.  Pistol whipped me once or twice but they werent prepared to fire it when I made like I was emptying my pockets and booked ass around a corner and then somebodys back yard.

As for me, Im an okay shot and havent gotten my permit, but do have a gun in the house.  Prefer revolvers.

Well, there's the slight issue that unless you want your bathroom to become an aspergillus farm you'll need to vent it in some way. Sure you could keep the door open, but then you're venting hot, humid air into the house instead. Fine a few times, over the long run you're turning the whole house into an aspergillus farm instead.

... it may be because I've always been in housing with central air, but. Least round here, most bathrooms do have a vent, in the ceiling? No need to open the window, probably a really good idea not to because that's how bugs get in. Also no need to open the door to air it out, the room's built for that. Seems, uh. Fairly reasonable design for a bathroom, really...

I'm sure flying dice can pass the licensing and training to recieve a concealed carry permit.

There are ways to force your window to only open to a certain extant, too, which would improve security. You could glue or tape a wood plank above/below the window opening that prevent it being opened more than necessary. The landlord generally can't deny object placement that doesn't use screws/nails or permanent adhesives. And if it's done from thw inside, and non permanent, you can remove it pretty easily as opposed to someone trying to break in. Keep a knife around you can cut/force it out.
