Man, saw a Noita speedrun. Never before have I felt like such a filthy casual with where I got after sinking a 100 hours into it.

cuz getting to the bottom is a whole lot easier when you can teleport and dig without concfor powerups

That one was all bosses. But I looked around after, and pretty much any speedrun puts me to shame. I've never even figured out you could use teleport to move at warp speed like that.

Yeah I watched someone do a challenge run of Hitman 2 a few days ago, and despite the fact I have done all the challenges including the tricky SASO for every mission up to Chongqing (so Hitman, Hitman 2, and half of Hitman 3) I didn’t know you could shoot your silenced pistol to cause distractions like throwing things.

There are whole communities around speedrunning, and oftentimes the strategies they use wouldn’t come up in normal play, so I wouldn’t feel bad about not knowing the ins and outs of a game.

I can’t remember where I heard it - probably GDQ or adjacent to that - but my favourite analogy to speed running is thus: if you consider video games as ships in bottles, the casual player will look at the ship in the bottle for a bit and think it’s really cool. A speed runner will pick up the bottle, examining the ship and bottle from every possible angle, and then smash it on the floor.

There was a two second Speedrun of Noita, using the fact that hollow eggs aren't properly cleaned up between runs to smuggle an uberwand from a modded save into a fresh vanilla save, and then using the wand to instantly teleport to the end and kill the boss.

Ah, the internet's propensity to immediately jump to lethal violence as a solution to all of life's problems and assume that nothing could go wrong continues to confuse me.

Reddit, again. And again, it's me pointing out that going straight to stabbing someone who's after your material possessions and not your life/person is a terrible idea. And again, people downvoting me and insulting me for being a pussy.

I think people seriously overestimate their own combat ability, and underestimate just how much of a fight boils down to luck, and *seriously* underestimate how dangerous escalating a fistfight, mugging, robbery or whatever into a fight for your life is. They seem to think that if you pull a knife or a gun you instawin and the other guy has no chance to disarm you, pull their own, or just straight up luck out and leave you (And possibly themselves) bleeding to death on the floor.

Lucky the world isn't filled with criminality, if it was these dumbasses would be dead by now because every time someone tried to rob them they'd immediately go from being robbed to lethal combat.

combat is random too.  Just because youre trained doesnt mean you cant get caught by circumstance.

Almost every culture I can think of still views men as having to be capable of perpetrating violence at the drop of a hat to 'protect what's theirs' in order to be a 'real man'

Yeah, I don't know why I argue against it. I'm tempted to go on r/The10thDentist and make a post about it seeing as it's apparently an unpopular opinion, just to see people try and justify stabbing people over the mildest inconvenience.

Anyway, seems the mods on that subreddit disagree with me because it looks like they shadowbanned me.

EDIT: Guy living above me does *not* know how to walk quietly. Even when I was obese I was quieter than this guy when I wasn't making an effort to be silent.

I can tell when they're walking because literally every step makes my room shake and door rattle in its frame. It's like they're stomping directly onto their heel with every step or something. I mean these rooms aren't well built but even so, that should be coming out as the floor creaking and being able to hear noise from people stepping around (or banging, as I mentioned in a previous post), not literal room-shaking.

On one hand, yes, that mugger is probably more capable at combat than you.

On the other hand, the mugger can't risk that they get wounded anyway.


For the person being mugged, it is safer to go along and hand over their valuables.

But for the neighbourhood, it's better if the victim fights back. Muggers might think twice about mugging people there if the people are known to fight back.

For the mugger collective its better if the individual mugger guts you like a fish the moment you try to fight back, therefore disencouraging further acts of bravery.
