Don't worry, it gets worse over time as it gives you a timer before allowing you to click the x.

People laugh about that but they're letting you know that they know... Maybe it's just a dark pattern meant to scare you into compliance, but I'd rather consider a short truce in a neverending arms race.

I can not stress enough how happy I am with youtube DLP, get some extra disc space download all your videos locally, skip around as much as you want without triggering ads, hell even the bitrate stays stable ever noticed how it's increasingly difficult and improable to see the start of a video in full quality, like the 4-5sec after you initiated fullscreen are allways bitcrushed because they were adjusting their output to your image size.

Global map skip 5 seconds so you can slap the fuck out of sponsor announcements without alt tabbing and voila, video like it should feel post 2010.

Been doing it since may I think my YT consumption hasn't exceeded 200-250gb yet, at mostly 720p60, that, as mentionned, oftentimes looks better than auto (1080p)

I'm using ublock origin and something like ublock+ which adds more filters and blocks some of the adblock blockers, I'm assuming that's why I'm able to get past it without any issue.

I also expect that sooner or later one or the other will be updated and I'll be able to get bypass the blocker.

It started hitting me last week. It got progressively worse, then stopped allowing me to watch videos.

So I got a different trick to get around the ads.


The thing is, the only reason I am using an adblocker is, that Youtube went too hard with the ads.

2 15s ads at the start of every video and every 5 minutes. ~50% chance of each ad pair being unskippable. There is no warning for when exactly the ads will come. And the ads tend to be louder than the videos I like to watch.
This is too annoying.

1. It would be better if they spaced the ads more, even if they made the ads longer. Even 3 minute ad every 30 minutes would be better. Then at least, it would be a valid bathroom break.

2. Either make it that an ad's peak volume can't be higher than the average volume of the video it plays on, or give a warning before ads are played. Back when I watched TV, TV did the second of these.
And yes, I am saying ad's peak vs. video average. So that you can't make the first 5s of the ad outrageously loud, then the rest silent.

I just don't do ads at all. The very few places I still get ads are on ironically when I view stories in Facebook or Instagram, and I mostly view those kind of foster a sense of community with a couple of people

Similar to GO, I get no ads whatsoever. I have ublock origin and Ghostery. Maybe you just need that extra layer on top of what you're using. Or try changing the blocker. Shouldn't take more than a couple minutes to set up.

I don’t want to hear from the ad companies: I want to hear from the companies buying ads. For every dollar you spend on ads, how much more profit do you really make?

If you cut ad spending by 10% do you lose more or less than 10% profit?

Yeah... You used to be able to skip in the video, as long as you clicked within the area that was allready buffered, then it came that you needed to use keyboard arrow keys to skip by 5 second bits within the prebuffered, if you wanted to move without triggering an ad. As far as I can tell by now, on heavily monetized channels you basically can not interact with the timebar without triggering additional ads. Wanna skip through some shitty lowtier letsplay to watch some gamefootage? Every skip triggers ads, some unskipable.... Makes some kinds of content basically unwatchable, try forming an opinion on starfield for example, you will have have enough dead air in that footage to learn a second language.


Want to get really whacky? Has anybody else the impression they love to trigger ad when something rustles / the mouse immobilizes? I have a hard time believing it was random, had ads way too often as soon as I get up... Is that even legal, what would your advertising clients think of you playing ads to rooms you presume to be empty... Ah but what's the point I am the crazy person yes yes ok I got it..........



They can't go for more spaced out longer ads unless they start every session with a giant ad. They took the attwntion span way past that. The amounts of times I have decided, " you know what? fuck that video", when it didnt start playing soon enough is high... then again in terms of digital etiquette I am an obstinate freak.
