Personally, I expect a freshly made hot drink (such as coffee, tea, hot cocoa, etc.) to be at 100°C. You make it by using boiling water (or milk in the case of the cocoa), so that is the expected temperature.

With foods, it depends, but I'll prefer being served hot food in a manner that conains it (such as on a dish that can be held, or in a box that can be carried), over having to wait while they cool my food.

Drink hot ? You should ask Chinese , almost everyone here is a perfect specialist in drinking warm or hot water , to me , without  a cup of warm water , I could not get into sleep easily during one day's  night .

I must say the Chinese practice of drinking hot water really caught on with me when I stayed in China. Sometimes I don't want to make a cup of tea but I do want something hot and hot water is just... Good

Eh... I've tried it a few times, but it always reminds me of, like, unpleasant stuff, mostly involving hot liquids getting in your mouth when you'd really rather they not (bathing or swimming, you reprobates).

Actually kinda' gotten where I'm not even particularly fond of cold water, either. Just give me a nice jug of room temp, plz. That's usually plenty colder than me, so it feels nice anyway.

RIP your tea if you make it at 100c. I do mine 70-80c max.

I was surprised to learn of this custom from my friends. Generally over here we like really cold water. The thought is it will cool us down better. I find it interesting because China's climate is generally warmer year-round than in California, so one might expect that cooling down would be a more common issue in China.

Hot water is soothing.  A little salt for flavor, or a lemon, and yum

That said, usually I try to make soup or something instead.  Like a nice celery soup

Yeah. I can appreciate a warm glass of water during winter, but...I lived in in Guangdong for a long time, where in the summers it's often in the mid to high 30s, and very humid. Seeing people reach for a 65 degree glass of water then makes my stomach churn...

I can understand eating spicy food ‘cause that can make you sweat and cool you down, but I’m not sure if the same would work with hot water.

Possibly, eating cold stuff cools your internal temperature so your body compensates for that by heating you up.

I have an aversion to being too warm though, so I tend to avoid hot drinks. Soups and broths are nice though.

Warm drinks when it's warm often makes the externals feel cooler by comparison, so, like, it makes sense? I've done hot chocolate or tea in (florida) summer before and it's either true or a pretty effective placebo.

First person to recommend that to me (and give that explanation on the effect) was an EMT that was around at the time... not a very trustworthy one, but *shrugs*

Though yeah, I haven't done much hot drinks over the last... while. Ever since I cut out caffeine like a decade and a half ago. I used to be a tea fiend, but all the stuff I was drinking was caffeinated and, welp.

I hadn't heard the spicy food thing!  I can believe it, though, I've had cold sweats from particularly tasty Mongolian food.

I don't know if this is an estrogen thing, but I've found myself less bothered by heat.  Unfortunately I find myself *overheating* more often as a result.  When I get back from a jog I sometimes chug nearly-freezing water as fast as I can without hurting my throat.  It helps a lot.

I have tried hot water before, and it's... okay.  Depends a lot on the water.  My dad's city has decent tap water, but the water here...  I primarily drink it straight, but it's better when I use my filtering pitcher.  Or chill it until it's tasteless.

Edit: Holding cold items against my forehead and ears helps me feel better fast, too.  I think the head's heat level is the primary problem, which is probably why ears are "designed" to expel heat so readily.  But dumping ice into the core has a similar, if more gradual, effect.  Hooray for the cardiovascular system!

The Arabs do like their hot tea. Sweltering heat notwithstanding.
But then again, they also dress up to stay cool. So it might be just a topsy-turvy world down there.

Ah but they also have gazpacho, cold soup!

Hot drinks burn my mouth way too much, I think I have some abnormality with receptors. So I drink cold water and warm tea.

I'll drink hot tea and soup even in 90+ degree Fahrenheit weather. I think it's the same with Arabs and hot tea. You like what you like in spite of the weather.

And for them, consider the cultural logistics. For how many years in a hot climate with no refrigeration. What other option would they have than to just brew it and drink it until that becomes normal? As opposed to letting it just cool naturally and get bitter and stale.
