Mild, but saw lizard in window with two-prong tail. Not sure if I've ever actually seen one of those before. Looked like a regular lizard with either an injury or mutation, but... still.

I captured one as a kid. Preserved its body after it died (I donno where it ended up after several moves). Its a consequence of injury. The tail is not completely severed and the replacemwnt grows into a forked tail

Happens with a fully severed tail as well sometimes. Most likely a species that can sever their own tail like geckos.

Any idea what species Frumple? I know Florida is full of native and invasive species, but it's always neat to know more of the species that can regenerate their tails.

In other words, no idea. Didn't look any different than the usual ones I see around here, small-ish (hand-length sized, tip of finger to heel, more or less) generally green if they haven't color shifted, cats like to (try to) eat them (I noticed it because the cat had bumrushed the relevant window trying to get at it). I wouldn't be surprised if there were three or four different species that looked mostly like that around here, and I just never noticed the differences, really.

... though looking real quick, if it wasn't a green anole (the native florida ones that can shift from green to brown, which are so common around here that they're about the only thing I actually think of when I think "lizard"), it was something similar. Feet looked a little different than what I could find of pictures of it, but the color and whatnot was otherwise more or less the same, and they're everywhere around where I'm at.

kids aged 13, 9, 4 and an infant survived 40 days after their plane crashed killing their mother. That story is unbelievably amazing!

Apparently, their mother survived the crashed and died 4 days later. Not easy to say goodbye to your mother and survive for over a month on your own without loosing hope. That 13yo girl is a tough cookie.

Anoles are one of the lizard types that can perform autotomy, so it being an anole is probably on the money.

Humans can be remarkable in survival situations. That the baby made it is incredibly impressive and speaks well of the older siblings' ability to handle such a crisis.

Went to a specialist. For the large amount of reviews about this guy being nice, he was actually kind of a jerk. The speed at which inserted and removed the camera probably isn't helping my opinion of the guy.

Now I have to schedule a bunch of things within the next two weeks before another examination, followed by surgery.

I've had a bunch of anxiety about this for the past several days. I feel like I shouldn't but still do.

Iguanas and tegus and the like are certainly more dramatic for press stories than anoles. FIVE FOOT lizard stalking countryside, all that sensationalist stuff. Someone gets bit by a big iguana that they frightened and it can cause some pretty gnarly injuries for a photo op. Same reason feral budgies don't generally get much press.

I mostly hear about it through pet ban stuff though. Any article going on about state bans on certain animals tends to mention if any have established invasive populations.

Hahaha them budgies, possibly in the top 5 most domesticated birds after chicken ducks and turkey and such...  Little adorable goofballs, incredibly frail... It amuses me to think of feral budgies, tough as nails and distrusting of humans. Such birb.



Sonetimes I feel like when I wallow in the depths of despair, fortuna starts throwing me bones left and right, how am I going to stay mad now.

There was a dead adult woodpecker in my yard today. It looked like it was just sitting in the grass, but not moving.  Like it landed there and died in its sleep - it wasn't torn up like it had been attacked, no wounds, its feathers were not out of place.

Since it was not under any trees (but close enough it could have fallen off one perhaps)... I wonder if it was ill, or died of exhaustion or something (we had some stormy weather in the area)... very random.

I picked it up with a shovel and threw it into the wooded area behind our property - that kept it a good 4 feet away from me at all times.
