Processed a kid's book today that had characters talking about unbirthdays as a plot point, and just.

That word has meanings beyond what was intended, ha ha holy shit book

Part of me regrets leaving the summary alone, on the off chance some kid sees it and then googles the term in question...

I think the last time one of those things (kids books with probably unintentional phrasing issues) hit as hard was Steig's The Amazing Bone. That one had bonus points in the art looking basically incredibly unintentionally skeevy pretty close from start to finish.

It's a fairly cute book all told, but good gods you could leave the cover and like half the art just alone and it'd still look entirely reasonable if you replaced the rest of it with appropriately stylized porn.

... also it was a caldecott winner, and there was at one point a short animated film for it made, featuring the fellow that would go on to be the voice of Shrek as the narrator.

Yeah, unbirthday is a completely normal innocent term. The fact that a tiny subset of internet people might have an alternate meaning for it is true for like a quarter of the popular words in the english language at this point.

Unbirth is a specific term of art, for... well, the turn of phrase is better or worse, but it's more like worse or worser :V

... I'd probably recommend just not looking it up, though. The term's descriptive enough to get the idea without having to see examples.

Yeah I looked it up and that's where I vaguely remembered it from.  Technically it was first in Through The Looking Glass but most people know it from the Disney movie.

I guess it's a harmless silly idea, but this Mad Hatter seems kinda sinister.  364 days off per year sounds like commie talk to me

Aw fun!!  Yeah guys can be real attractive.  I'd say "look good" but there's so much more to it than visuals (That applies to gals too of course but... well culture is complicated)
