Looking up NASA tie clip I did find a… well it wasn’t all that dissimilar I guess, it looked like it had landing gear. and it looked to be gold-plated. It sold for like £75 on some auction website.

My great uncle patched up planes in WWII. My granny had some decorative pieces he'd made out of the scrap. Maybe something similar?

On a tangential note, my great great etc. grandfather was a ye olde blacksmith and we still have the ornamental anvils he made (they're about the size of a clenched fist, made of... what I'm guessing is brass).

Aerospace was huge in the 50s, and there were lots of decorations and knicknacks styled on rockets and jet planes. This wouldn't be that out of place in that time period.
