It's from like a week ago, but trying to figure out a way to mass bookmark the things so I can comfortably clear out the cache and whatnot and hopefully make it stop crashing constantly (it's gotten worse since an update, go figure), I managed to find something that gave an exact count of the tabs I have open on the tablet browser!

by "well over" I apparently meant "by double"; the exact count was 622. ~1400 tabs total between desktop and tablet.

Pretty sure I've hit higher than that before, but it's a respectably silly amount regardless. And seriously, for all it's giving me problems lately, it's still working -- there's some kudos to be given to whoever's handled Opera's mobile browser. The thing can take some stress and still function to some degree.

600 tabs is a good number for tabs, I mean I've had nearly that many at one time.

Seriously... what are these engineers doing?  The Mach E is only 4.72 meters long. That means they have enough extra wire for ~340 car lengths?  What!?  And that's extra length!?

Someone could have accidentally put an entire spool of wire into the harness and forgot to trim it.

If you have "thousands" of sensors in the battery pack, I still maintain You're Doing It Wrong - that's unnecessary complexity.  (That said I don't think there are that many, based on my experience with pack design. Unless we were lucky enough to work on an efficiently-designed pack?)

Even so - two thousand wires times an inch is only 25 meters, nowhere close to the 1600 claimed. You'd need an extra 0.8 meters each on 2000 wires to get 1600 extra meters... that's over 30 inches, not "a couple."

Assuming at least 6000 batterycells, since that about the amount of 18650 you need (there are other formfactors) that's about half a foot of excess wire per cell... Or as the article says, 70 pounds of wire  ...


Given that in DC applications wire length will quickly start ramping up wire gauge requirements... It's not efficient to drive around 70 pounds excess weight... But like at least you didn't get robbed in material value, kinda.

Harness is kind of a meaningless term. I want to do a battery myself without point soldering nickel plates, so defective cells can be swapped out. If they did something similar it's way more labor intensive and costs more material, but is also more serviceable....... So maybe the article is to take with a grain of salt, especially if the different series are actively balanced between eachother.

The context for this is that it happened at a public charter school -- which in actual english means it's a private school that figured out how to grift money from the state. If you're aware of the pretty much fucking ubiquitous character of these things, basically everything about what happened there is completely unsurprising, from the parents involved making the complaint to the decision makers capitulating to it. They're more or less the rotten taint of the US educational system (which is saying something, because the US educational system is pretty fucked up on a lot of levels), and for once this has less to do with "florida" than it does with the stateside private school grift.

If casual nudity was shunned where and when they were made, they technically are porn.

That being said, I do not think that porn and nudity are bad by themselves. I think that there is a lot of unnescessary censorship going around, including about the topics of sex and death.

I think censorship only makes sense in 3 cases:
A) if the knowledge belongs to a particular person, they has a right to deny it to others (One's personal information)
B) if the information is directly harmful to the knower (known as Memetic Hazard)
C) if public knowledge of a fact would pose a risk to society as a whole (Stuff like how to build WMDs)

Since knowledge about death and sex is something every person has to learn eventually, censoring it is worse than pointless. Sure, in case of information about death, it can delay the shock of them learning how horrible it is, but it could also make the shock worse.
