I drove through Indianapolis once, on a drive from Wisconsin to Kentucky, via Chicago.

I was glad it wasn’t my final destination.

However, yeah. Iowa is basically corn fields and wind turbines. I was moderately impressed by a bridge in Louisville.

Re: grammatical gender
Everything is gendered in Russian, without any logic or reason besides word endings. A knife is a he, a fork is a she, meat is an it.

Yeah, when I encountered that while taking french language classes, myself and my classmates agreed the only reasonable explanation for the word gendering choices was that whoever made those decisions got astoundingly drunk and played a game of darts to decide what was what.

I can't recall ever hearing about a gendered language like that that actually had, like, a pattern to its assignments. Drunken pub games work better as a explanation that anything else I've seen.

Sweden only has feminine and masculine genders because our lingual terminology copies Latin terminology (we have two "genders" but gender is not relevant to which one you are in -- mother, daughter, woman, girl are all "masculine" words for example), but fork is "masculine" here too.
