Call it a selection bias of my social circles, but I'm not sure I've ever met a guy who would confidently say they can tell if a girl was flirting with him. Romance is hard.

I am historically terrible at being flirted with.

My now-wife claims that she was constantly giving the evil eye and/or directly threatening various girls who were trying to flirt with me while we were dating. I was consistently oblivious.

I'm sure it was frustrating for someone at some point. Hell if know who, though.
Ditto to the T. This was back in college when I was not a knot of balding stress and weight variations of course.

I get (irrational) anxiety from trying to properly look people in the eyes.  I always end up staring elsewhere with their actual face in my periphery or look somewhere even dumber.

Its something that really needs fixing but bad habits don't die.

You know, some people dislike others staring at their eyes directly, they found it like an agression or challenge towards them, so it goes both ways sometimes.

A rule of thumb here is to never, ever refer to anything someone else has said. Just never do it.

What does this mean?
If one's sentence starts with "so-and-so said that..." and is about whether are not people are into one another, it's probably better not to finish it. Never ask if someone was/is dropping hints, on their own behalf or on someone else's. Never mention that X said Y was into Z, especially if you're one of X, Y or Z. It's just better not to go into things people have said, I've found.

Direct questions like "does X like me" or "are you coming on to me" are more ok.

A practical example: if Meth asks one of the woman in question if they like him, bringing up what some third party said is at best completely unnecessary and at worst going to make the whole thing awkward and uncomfortable.

It's not unreasonable to think he may just not have noticed.

I can think of several fairly obvious flirtatious exchanges which, at the time, I shrugged off.

I can think of several seemingly obvious flirtatious exchanges in my own life which, upon deeper analysis of the details and context, turned out not to be flirtatious at all. I would have made a massive fool out of myself if I acted on them.

The thing is, women are complicated. Not only are their signals hard to detect, but sometimes they'll flirt with you for their own amusement without any intent of taking things further. In these kinds of situations, your hindsight isn't 20/20. The only way you'll ever know for sure if you missed something is if they tell you later on. Until that time though, you shouldn't so confidently assume you were a stud. People misunderstand things all the time.

People. People are complicated. Pretty sure the current conversation is/started talking about a possible m/m flirtation.

e: And in actual wtf, something seems to have basically knocked down youtube worldwide. Site itself's working, but no videos are loading. Been a while since I've noticed that happening...

e2: Didn't seem to last very long, though. Oh well.

No. E and I are not the same letter in Japanese.

Or rather, "Ni" (に) and "Ne" (ね) are not the same letter.
