Long after the sun has set, after the glaciers have melted, the seasons changed again and agin after the last mammal breathed, long after the oceans have frozen back to ice, long after volcans gone extinct and long after a spacefaring AI has won it's battle for supremacy, long after they evaluated every fossil and ruin to be found on the cold half of this earth that looked towards outer space during the supernova... Long after that supergalactic entity shut itself down into hibernation, long after the universe crumbled into total enthropy... There will still be this nagging voice, asking for sundrop in a bottle.

It is terrifying.

Nothing is more terrifying than raising a toddler in these times. I just learned of Fifi the Flossing Sloth. My entire existence is now devoted to ensuring that he doesn't learn of its existence.

Was it you, or Yoink, that was disturbed by the flossing energizer battery commercial?

I mean... would that be a better or worse role model than Stoner Sloth? 🤔

@Wierd: oh, it was me who posted about it alright, but I'm surely not the only one to be disturbed by that abomination.

I heard about this thing today, but it happened a while back:

https://www.thedailybeast.com/proud-boy-member-accused-of-murdering-his-brother-with-a-sword-4

Quote
A self-proclaimed member of the far-right Proud Boys group who also believes in the QAnon conspiracy theory allegedly murdered his own brother with a sword.

Prosecutors say Buckey Wolfe, 26, killed his brother in Seattle on Sunday night by stabbing him in the head with a four-foot-long sword.

Wolfe, who prosecutors say exhibited signs of mental illness, called police himself after the killing and claimed he thought his brother was a lizard, The Seattle Times reported. When detectives arrived, he asked them if they saw other “lizards,” according to court filings. Wolfe has been charged with second-degree murder.

He was a Reptilian Agenda believer and not just a garden-variety "you turned into a lizard" insane person, however so this makes the first actual Reptilian Agenda murder I've heard about.

Reportedly, he was not actually a member of Proud Boys (which is apparently structured much more like the KKK than I expected, which seems a little on the nose!), just a fan. I'm not sure this makes any difference, but it's important to be clear so nobody can later complain. :P

Well, the idea is that the "Proud Boys" apparently specifically choose who they let in, and even have a whole hierarchy with "degrees", I discovered. So, you can't be a member unless the hierarchy says so.

That's probably a big difference between those right-wing activists and Antifa or other left wing activists. Trump keeps saying Antifa should be banned, but since they are an amorphous group with no defined leadership structure that's kind of hard to do. It's asking to ban an idea. It's like saying "let's ban civil rights activists".

Whereas the right wing version definitely has to have a hierarchy and well-defined pecking order, and if someone just says they're Proud Boy they'll say "oh but they're not actually a card-carrying member so it doesn't count". Suuuure, do they also apply that logic to Antifa actions? They can't really comprehend the idea of something that nobody is actually really in charge of so they project their own world view on them and assume Antifa are loyal footsoldiers. Of god knows who. They probably assume Nancy Pelosi is in the line of command for Antifa actions.

Even Qanon which is the right-wing extension of just being an Anon couldn't go with creating a hierarchy: they need a supposed authority figure, Q as their leader. Like, you had the classical anons who were just shitposters, but now they have Anon+ who bow to worship Master Anon who is effectively The Pope to their Trump-worshiping religion. Hence the stuff about the "legit" tripcodes of Q vs the false prophets, and how they literally believe that God Emperor Trump is sending them commands though things like hand gestures.

I once saw a twitter post which posted an excerpt from a cop manual basically saying that infiltrating anarchist groups long-term was impossible because none of the cops they sent could keep up with the theory or rhetoric enough to not obviously be cops.

Like sure, anarchism can get complicated but it's really not that complicated in terms of being able to talk to other anarchists. I really have to wonder what Absolutely No Good Very Bad I Want To Get Off COINTELPRO's Wild Ride experience happened to these cops that such a statement would end up in a training manual.

I can only imagine that they tried to propose doing a bit of the old ultraviolence in exactly the same way they'd propose it to their cop buddies but against different targets, in which case yeah that would hit the wall pretty quickly.

Well the problem there is that if you study the standard writings too much you're going to stand out just as much as if you didn't study them at all, with anarchism.

Anarchist groups are made up of people with diverse ideas. If you come in and you start quoting Proudhon at people verbatim, that's going to look weird after a while. However if you go into a socialist group and you're a died in the wool Marxist with a hardline orthodox interpretation, people will just shrug and they'll interact with you based on whether or not you seem a generally likable person. Anarchists just don't have the type of purity battles where they compete to be the most orthodox adherent to Proudhon's or anyone else's writings they way different strands of socialism do. Socialists be all "I'm a Marxist" or "I'm a Trotskyite" or "I'm a Maoist". No anarchist really goes "I'm a Proudhonist".

So it's not just right vs left, anarchism is more "bottom up" to socialisms "top down" approach.
