I generally had it explained to me as 'What draws your eye when you're just sitting at the beach?'
For me it's generally female. This means that I'm either heterosexual or a well-conditioned pervert, so I'll assume the former.
As for gender identities and labels and etcetera, I feel like us cissies are a bit privileged when it comes to being able to identify as a label and be treated according to our comforts because of it.
If someone's dropping some real emotional shit in a room with me, I can just pull the 'dude' card and people generally laugh and simplify it down a bit. That's just the tip of the iceberg. There's probably many things I either have brought to me or are kept away from me just because I can exist under the 'male' label. I guess trans people want to have a label like that, and the otherkin feel some sense of envy at the same.
I imagine it would be nice if I were a non-conventional-gender to be able to save a similar set of societally conditioned 'do's' and 'don't's around the interactions people have with me. People in real life obviously can't expect this kind of 'special treatment' simply due to being a minority, but in online spaces where it can specifically have a larger demographic... why not? I imagine it'd feel pretty good to be able to have your own pidegonhole to squeeze into. It might not cause the same kind of subconscious interaction differences, but it could be close enough.
