Speaking of that, this buttered noodles thing I've started messing with is... surprisingly good. Better than I was expecting the first time I tried it. Current attempt is excess yakisoba box noodle thing with butter and pepper and some cheese and bacon bits and honey turkey. Is pretty okay, and for whatever reason it feels less filling than the noodles normally do.

Recently played a ton of Dominion over the weekend with family.  4 player games with just the base set, with two people being totally new to it.

The general reception of the game is positive, but my dad's driving me nuts over how much of a caveman he is.  He just doesn't seem to see value in a game where victory isn't determined by clubbing your opponent in the head.  He won't play unless there's attack cards in the kingdom and often for him the attacks aren't powerful or devastating enough.  Or that attacks should be aimed at a specific player, as if three people always attacking just the player in the lead won't just be degenerate every time.

The big big issue is I'm the only one with even the vaguest deck-building skill, so he doesn't notice half the power of his attacks on my deck, forcing me to dilute the deck with relatively bad Moat cards, or wasting actions and turns trashing curse cards in my deck, or having to adapt to do without high value treasure.  Or even without attack cards I need to decide if ending the game now is really the right thing and I'm actually in the lead to win.

How is that even possible when the DM can just say "You die."?

So I kept watching that let's play of Code Vein, despite the voice acting and story to be so painful.

I have to wonder what the people who built that blood temple had to be thinking during construction.  Maybe the foreman was like "well, they just said they wanted 20 towers 100 meters tall, with 100 flying buttresses.  Go for it!" And the workers just built the bridges and crap as was convenient for construction.  Even if it was built by screwed-up construction drones - WTF?

I mean - there is no realistic reason to build a structure like that.  It just doesn't make any sense...it's immersion-breaking.  I can't even believe it is some kind of Zen experience.  It's like it is purposely built to be a maze for no reason.  It doesn't even have any kind of organic flow to it, if somehow the thought was it grew like a plant or something.

OG D&D was much lighter on the rules than later editions, and Gygax in particular had a "The GM's job is to kill the players, the player's job is to outwit the GM" mindset. There was much more of a narrative focus outside of combat rather than the rules-constrained setup of later editions, and GM fiat ruled the day. This is why things like the 10 Foot Pole are iconic bits of adventuring kit - a wise player would probe everything from a distance before interacting with it as the most basic precaution.

The archetypal example is the OG Tomb Of Horrors, where every room had at least one "do this and you die, no save" trap.
