You have an urban mindset. A lot of rural folks are destroying pests well before the age of 10. When my uncle was a kid, one of his chores involved using a .22 to pot anything he saw in the yard. A lot of folks like that grew up and migrated to the city, but raised their kids the same way.
That might be it. I grew up in the city and rather rarely visit the countryside (only some of my relatives live away from the capital).

I DO NOT NEED LOADS OF SPECIAL INSIGHT TO REJECT A CLAIM THAT SNAKES CAN AND DID TALK

That is all.

I live in the South, if you're wondering.

I don't think the snake wasn't a special snake, not a regular snake

So did it have human vocal cords? Because that's weird and isn't noted anywhere

Eve not doing that was kinda the original sin and all. And natural evil still exists, so I don't think God has, though Jesus might have?

It's all rather confusing really.

Look, some people find comfort in ancient lore.
I do the same.  I don't favor the xenophobic god who halfthird-reincarnated as a xenophile undead, but to each their own.

Same for me. I find the Abrahamic religions dogmatic, restrictive, and generally uninteresting.

Isn't the whole point of religion that they're dogmatic?

It's more that dogmatic religions out-competed non-dogmatic ones.

I mean, Buddhism is usually not very aggressive or dogmatic. Same for the syncretic form of Tengrism I follow...

I thought tha the "sin" was eating the fruit. But since the fruit was what made them distinguish right from wrong, they should not be considered responsible for anything they did until they ate it, including the eating. That seems unfair.

About the snake, what if it was a magicaly talking snake? Air magic to make sound, or telepathy to talk without it.
