You need an image format that writes columns instead of rows.

You could get a poor man's approximation by rotating 90 degrees, doing the process, then rotating back -90 degrees.

Can you give me an example of such a format? Or better yet, a search term for such a thing?

I think that's the wrong way to look at it. If there's an image stored by columns then that's the "grain" of the data, and when you put it in audacity, it'll just be column by column instead of row by row. No difference.

I thought the largest locust plague (the largest in at least 70 years) that has been destroying nationwide crops in Africa since december would be gone by now, but no.
It's in Kenia now.
They are billions.

I've been noticing a lot of "There's" used in articles recently, where the thing in question is plural. Journalists suck at basic grammar apparently.

"There's 10 cats over there"

"There is 10 cats over there"

Sure, if you're just telling your buddy "there's a couple of beers in the fridge, can you grab them?" it's ok, but these journalists are language professionals, no excuses.

Ah, if they insist on contractions, There’re 10 cats over there would be more correct. Assuming there’re would be a valid contraction for there are

"there's a couple of beers in the fridge, can you grab them?"
That's proper though: the noun is "couple" in that sentence, which oddly enough is singular*, not "beers": "of beers" is modifying couple.
That is, you could've said, "There's a couple in the fridge" without loss of structure.  The hint is "a couple".

If you want "are" you would say, "There are beers in the fridge".

*Of course like all things language, this depends on dialect.  UK English has collective nouns/verbs so "couple" can be plural.  But that's only in situations where you aren't identifying "a" couple.

Journalists suck at basic grammar apparently.

How would we know what the would suck at if they still existed?

I'm not sure if it's proper, but there're no people who would be confused as to your meaning. Communication is the primary use of language, so I would say that any word with a meaning that everyone shares is a proper word.

Edit: I came here because I'm not sure if I was aware prior to today (if I was, I have forgotten), that McGruff the Crime Dog is also a criminal. For those not in the US, McGruff was a guy in a dog suit and trenchcoat who also voiced cartoons of that dog person, and it was his job to tell children not to use drugs, and also to narc people out.

me too, a word is a symbol or group of symbols with an agreed upon meaning, and letters are symbols that, alone or combined, can convey meaning. At least that’s how I think, sentences being strings of words that convey meanings

I think that's wrong.

Consider the past-tense to make the point:

there was a couple of beers in the fridge, before.
there were a couple of beers in the fridge, before.

The first is clearly wrong, so "is" is also wrong.

https://jakubmarian.com/a-couple-of-is-vs-a-couple-of-are-in-english/
from this, the modifier that makes the difference is the "of". If you just have "a couple" then you can use "is", but if it's a couple of something, you use "are".
