Dazzle wasn't designed to hide the ship, but to confuse submarine commanders about the size, heading and type of ship.

Edit: If it's not clear from the name in the link (which is why the name is not hidden), that's probably not safe for work. No nudity or whatever, but the WTF is that someone had to look this stuff up for their job. I removed the link, but it's the person describing tracking down the source of the image, and why people might think the original was political.

Edit: Oh yeah. I returned to say I learned that using the same Boolean multiple times in the same search makes it work better. I'm not sure I understand computers if the minus sign doesn't 100% remove a thing, but I did learn that the minus sign and the term 3 times does what you'd expect.
