I've been re-reading the "Things that made you laugh" thread from the beginning, both because I can usually use a good laugh and because I can't respond to them.

But today I read "I dislike that there doesn't seem to be any common way to refer to a piece of music with no vocals."

I guess it's not a WTF, so much as "there's a simple solution to your problem, person in the past I can't communicate with, and who has become a different person who might know the answer", but...

Bumped into my ex today at the grocery store. Made extremely brief eye contact. She either didn't recognize me (I did after all have long hair and a beard when we split up, although I'm sure she's heard from her friends by now that I've cut it), or she did and just refused to acknowledge my existence. Either way, pretty hilarious.

Thankfully it was only through a bizarre twist of fate (was late getting to an appointment in the big city today, thanks to someone turning into manberry jam on one of the subway lines) that I ended up going to the store around that time, so this most likely isn't going to be a regular meeting, heh.

I like the term "Brolognese sauce" instead to describe the aftermath of rapid vechicular liquefaction

How/why was someone on the track?
1. Step on track
2. Train
3. [redacted]
4. Brolognese sauce

Why? People have their reasons...

Are you seriously telling us you've only just discovered the concept of suicide?

Any number of reasons, all bad ones.

1) "My life is shit, but I have a huge insurance policy-- it will be better for my wife/significant other/children/other to have that money than my continued misery"
2) "My life is shit and I just can't take it anymore."
3) "Oh look! Somebody dropped a 100$ bill down ther--Oh shi--"

you get the idea.

I know what suicide is, I think it’s sad thst people would willingly end their life.

Trains are big, heavy, can't maneuver, and are notoriously hard to stop. As far as suicide methods go it's probably fairly reliable assuming no one stops you or forces you out of the way.

Of course, you ruin everyone else's day by doing that, but I'm pretty sure anyone that would put themselves in front of a train just doesn't care about such things.

(this is a rather morbid topic)

You need to spend more time with the terminally ill, or the very very old.

Right to Die is a wonderful thing. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Death by train is for the younger, more desperate types plagued by existential life crises that arent thinking straight.
Right to Die is for people with unrelenting full body pain from unfixable systemic conditions (like bone cancer).

Both are suicide.

Thank you for enlightening me, if I was in the hospital consistently suffering with no way to stop whatever it is thst is causing it, I wouldn’t want to be forced to stay alive for as long as possible with no chance of recovery. Veterinarians euthanize animals that have no chance of being cured, yet humans with no chance of being cured can’t choose to be euthanized.

Not necessarily! Lots of us are very preoccupied with what we leave behind; not only the emotional impact on family/friends, or the shock of whoever's most likely to find the body (and whatever impacts the method might have, in the case of public transit), but also simple stuff like whatever poor bastard has to clean up the mess that's left over.

Certainly not everyone thinks that way, but there are plenty of very conscientious suicides (as much as the situation allows, anyways).

Human euthanasia's actually legal in some places in the world, iirc. Doctor assisted suicide. There's been plenty of hullabaloo on the subject in the US over the years, and some places have had it go legal under certain circumstances. There's also pulling the plug on life support, do not resuscitate orders, etc. It's a pretty complicated issue.

E: Finally looked up the actual name of the lone ranger theme song. Alas, poor march of the swiss soldiers, generations know you as nothing except that theme song.
