I don’t remember humans calling themselves the first animals, the first animals were likely either sponges or comb jellies. Why are people insulted by being called animals/primates/monkeys/apes?

I think it’s arrogant to call ourselves the highest animals. Evolution is not a hierarchy. While the name is primate, primate is but one of many groups of organisms, with variations.

Other primates have opposable thumbs too. Whales, dolphins, squids and octopi have big brains, ants, ambrosia beetles, and termites farm, birds and fish use tools, we are not as unique as we tend to think.

We're the only animals to come up with an order of all animals, I think we're justified in putting ourselves on the top because of it

For all we know, other animals could have attempted classifying other animals, just not writing it down

This is all a gross misinterpretation of terms. Clearly we're the highest animal because we have mastered drug use. Most animals consume accidentally. The closest to humanity would probably be dolphins and their systematic torture of pufferfish.

Actually that's not true; recreational drug use has been observed in a number of animals, including stuff like specifically waiting for fruit to ferment so that they can get drunk off the alcohol (there's also catnip, of course, but that's kind of a weird one what with the genetic component).

We're definitely the best at it, though.
