Also I'm not sure there's anything in Iduno's sig that doesn't work with darkling. It's all white text to me. Or do you mean the idea itself?

It's not invisible, just dark. Darkling background is brown, so black text is readable, it's just kind of a nuisance.

Darkling alternates between #282828 and #353535 as background color for posts, and #303030 for quotes. With black text, the contrast ratios end up being 1.42, 1.71, and 1.59 respectively. They all fail WCAG 2.0, which means they're nigh-unreadable. I don't know Iduno's intent, but they are basically invisible, at least at first glance.

...of course, that assumes the reader's using Darkling. The default theme (in the lower boards, at least) uses black text by default, so black text doesn't really change anything.

Why not use transparent text instead? It works across both themes, and it's completely unreadable to boot! Look!

This is a known phenomenon, I just can’t remember the name of it.

Also, Buckie doesn’t count, they do that in Scotland too, probably elsewhere in t’Isles.

(Don't worry though, I know there are sizeable differences. You're closer to Antrim-folk than CMP's Irish-folk.

Is darkling the thing they use on the upper boards to make the text color the opposite of here?

When I added the signature, I had forgotten the colors were different, which makes the joke better. By default, all text here is black on a light blue or white background.
