Does it not? Butchers slaughter livestock all the time; even in its poetic usage, it more commonly refers to one-sidedness than any malice above and beyond that of, you know, war.

Slaughter seems more like murder as a matter of course or as a result of cause and effect than malicious intent or force of will?

Like a car spinning out of control is slaughter, usually.
Killing a piggy for its meat.
killing your wife for sleeping with a man is an interesting case of maybe slaughter.

I think its more about how you frame the actions around the death that determines how it is phrased.  but manslaughter is supposed to be less heinous.  Perhaps it is an appeal to religious roots or nature

One of the newcomer characters in Twisted Metal: Black was a dump truck dubbed Manslaughter, which I thought was an incredibly dumb name as a kid.

I dunno.  I think the "emotional element" is what delineates "Mass murder" and "Slaughter."

EG, when somebody goes bananas and brings a fully automatic weapon to a crowded cube farm, and starts raining bullets in a hail of fury-- that's mass murder. There's a strong emotional element.



Dropping a nuclear bomb, as a cold and calculated attack strategy, and killing millions of people at once without any conscience-- that's slaughter.


I say this, because for the most part at least, people are emotionally blind to agricultural slaughter (from which the term derives.)  Cows go in, meat comes out.  There isn't some guy in there who just furiously hates cows, going apeshit with the bolt gun.

Shitty VLC, I really hate that waste of space. Tried the mobile version of VLC because some videos had sound problems with mxplayer. Shitty VLC had full screen artifacts and image tearing within seconds. I regret every time I ever try and use VLC . its supposed to be popular, why does it fuck up on every platform I have ever owned? Mplayer or MPV for the win

MXPlayer on android is WIN because it tries to do everything it can using the dedicated MPEG hardware decoders baked into the SoCs the devices are built from, and bandaging with software decoding where that is either not possible or only partially possible.

VLC is "Hey, we made this for free, and some of our implementations are not terribly efficient."  On a system with resources to spare, that inefficiency becomes less apparent.  On a resource constrained device, it shows more prominently.  My beef with VLC is how shitty its interface is.  Its UI people need to be shot. (MX player is not terribly intuitive either, but at least it has very efficient video decoding.)

I have it on my PS4, as I'm not paying for the PS3 subscription for the sequel.  Screw that.

It holds up, mostly.  I'd say the PSP one, Head On, is probably my favorite of the franchise.

A few weeks ago, I tried the beta of VLC. It worked like a charm until I tried to play video. It just crashed. No amount of fiddling within the settings would help. At that point, I gave up and rolled back to the stable version. It's a damn shame; I liked the UI redesign.

My experience with VLC is that I used to have to install codecs, then I found this open source software and never had to again.  It runs *everything*.

That's probably the new normal, and the UI does need help, but it's what I'm used to.  That said I have let WMP take over for some filetypes because VLC has odd lag issues with them.

VLC being open-source, it's really on me that I'm taking the shitty route.
