The tonberry palace in FFXI is a goddam nightmare, both in that it is creepy and also terrifying dangerous to navigate.

I wonder if there'd be nightmare fetishists? Or people who specialise in wet dreams.
Depending on what you mean exactly I do know people who are into that, yeah.

Creepypasta does have some shared DNA with a shaggy dog story in that it draws you in with what appears to be a reasonable series of events before taking you for a little ride. The only difference is that one makes you laugh and the other makes you stay up at nightohgodIneedtosleepbutcantpleasehelp

Oh, right... Just remembered what the military told us about minimum sleep requirements.

What's the minimum amount of sleep you need per night, according to the chaplain/officer-in-charge-of-mental-well-being? Three hours. You need three hours sleep every 24-hour period in order to be a happy and productive fellow.

Truck drivers have special requirements that place their minimum at 5 hours every day, with an additional caveat that at least two of those hours must be contiguous. The rest can be made up of powernaps spread out through the day.

"Oh by the way, we're gonna go on a trip where you don't get to sleep or eat for 5 days."

Ahh, heard some fun stories from that trip... Me? Nah, I pleaded mental instability and pulled some strings, got to be the shithead who escaped Hell Week. Later got to listen to accounts about the officers rewarding good behavior with individual raisins, and about the mass hallucinations.

I haven't found any genuinely scary creepypasta. It's either trying too hard and therefore ends up feeling like a silly campfire ghost story, or just relies on outright disgust factor, which is like, yeah that's gross, not scary.

There were a couple of things on the SCP website I was genuinely creeped out by, I just can't remember what they were.

Though that's a couple of things out of the several hundred I read, the majority of which I was picking apart for not making sense or just being boring.

I mean plenty of it is well-written or interesting, just not like, scary.

I don't consider myself to be unfit. I'm not over-weight (been told I'm a bit thin, actually) and I have an adequate amount of upper body strength. Most of my exercise is walking (which I enjoy, so long as there's a goal at the end of it, ie walking to university) or lifting boxes at work (retail).

Anyway, as part of a general self-improvement scheme I thought I'd try some thrice-weekly exercises:

20 bodyweight squats
10 push ups
20 walking lunges – 10 each leg
10 dumbbell rows (using a gallon milk jug or another weight)
15 second plank
30 jumping jacks

You're meant to do these three times. I did it twice, minus the jumping jacks because of the ceiling. That was about two days ago now. My legs still haven't recovered.

I vaguely remember being creeped out by some really old internet horror story involving a vast wilderness, western researchers, some kind of mysterious creature native to the region and at some point a crashed helicopter, mostly told through the perspective of recovered journal entries penned by one of the surviving researchers (yeah it sounds pretty cheesy now, but I read this as a kid I think), but I've never been able to track down that particular story again. :(

Re: CP's story, I figured it was fiction as soon as those Russian special forces dudes started showing emotion and going to pieces. :P

I dunno, I kinda got a bit o' the jeepers from the ol' Goatman story.

Might just be an intrinsic loathing of the outdoors, though.

Welcome back!

Re: sleep deprivation, I do sometimes get very paranoid about sleeping after I stay up too late.  That "second wind" around 4-6AM sometimes (not always) comes with a feeling that when I do sleep, I'm going to have nightmares.  Yet I have to sleep *sometime*.  Hasn't happened as much recently though.

The game Kholat, from what little I remember, sounds kinda like that?  I watched a LP a long time ago.  It was about a spooky wilderness where some people died for unclear reasons, one of them apparently over a mile before immolating.  The game involves walking through the forest years later, encountering spookies.

And on a completely different note:  I'm playing Star Control 2 The Ur-Quan Masters v0.6.4 - Extended Edition.  I went in having very little clue as to what it adds, but I've found a few things already!  No big plot changes or anything, just neat stuff- like, Commander Hayes offhand mentions an abandoned Precursor starbase around a certain star, and if you go there - it's there now!

And later I was following up on a clue about a Mmhrm colonization effort.  The system the Spathi met them in was disappointingly empty, so I explored around doing normal mineral collection - and found the Mmhmrm homeworld??  Nobody named their home system, but it's pretty much on a direct line from Spathiwa, to the planned colony, to the homeworld.  Since it's now in enemy territory, it's possible that I just never found it in the original game.

I've recaptured a little of that love of exploration in one of my favorite games of all time~

Damn near, yeah. Last post was early July of 2016 from the looks of it, other than today. Makes me feel super old because I remember that being not too long ago, but I guess it's been longer than I thought.
